Looks like we're going to the vet tomorrow...

When I came home tonight my I saw my dog was bleeding pretty badly from her front paw. She sliced it open on something, I'm not really sure what yet. She's layed it open pretty pretty good....if it was a person I'm sure it would require stitches

We cleaned the dirt out of it, put some antibiotics on it and wrapped it. Its not an emergency by any means, but I know it hurting like hell. We'll take her to the vet in the morning.

She's not whining but I know her paw has got to be throbbing. Is there anything else I can do for her tonight?

    I wonder if you could put some numbing salve on it??? I don't know about tylenol or asprin?

    I don't have a good answer for you, but by the standards of most of us here I might suggest a couple shots of whiskey and a bullet for the dog to bite down on. Seriously, sorry to hear the dog has a wounded paw.

    Or, you could show the dog a picture of Hillary and the paw would suddenly be the least of it's concerns[:D]

    You can feed her some benadryl medicne for kids. It will kill the pain.it also calmes them down until they get to the vet.

    I have some lidocaine (sp?) in my first aid kid.....I'm hesitant to numb it though.....I'm afraid she might start chewing on it or something.

    As it is, she's leaving the dressing alone

    I was just making sure I wasn't missing something obvious

    Our little 15lb. dog was attacked by a Pit/Boxer mix last summer and the vet told us to give it childrens aspirin to help with any pain.

    Our dog has a arthritic front leg. My vet says if she gets to gimping on it, one regular asprin will help.

    Dont give it aspirin, it will increase the bleeding. Just take it to the vet first thing, it will be fine.............

    Did the dog get in the trash and step on the top to a can maybe? Staple? Knife? Nail? Who knows - its hard to tell

    probbaly stepped on a peice of broken bottle. my dog did that twice. sliced his toe pad right open, might as well have been cut with a knife.

    I made a bandage with paper towels and wrapped it with duct tape. amazingly, he left it alone. he must have known what it was on there for. left it on for about 2 weeks (changed with new bandage as needed) till it healed good enough.

    but, you should take her to the vet. wash it off with soapy water and put some neosporin on it for now and some kind of bandage so a) no more dirt gets in the wound and b) she doesn't try to walk on it.

    I think aspirin is bad for dogs. I know it can be lethal to cats.

    Our vet said not to give our dogs asprin..75ld Golden retriever and a 90ld Black Lab.

    Tylenol is toxic to dogs, never give them Tylenol!

    Baby Asprin is what the vet told us.

    Buffered Aspirin, but not with a bleeding wound - it will decrease clotting, which can increase bleeding...

    What a day (night)........

    I thought last night's bandage would hold it till this morning....nope

    She got up to get a drink of water. In the process she re-opened the wound.....

    She didn't tear the bandage off, but the blood soaked through. Now I've got blood all over the carpet. I put her in her cage so she'd stay off her paw.

    The vet had to stitch it up and thought it best to "put her under" for it.

    I go pick her up tomorrow. I can't wait to see the bill [B)]


    If this had happened to my grandpa's dog he'd have poured turpentine (sp?) on it and turned her loose in the backyard. Different times I guess [;)]

    Never under estimate what duct tape and a tampon will do. That's my red-neck dog first aid kit. [:D]
