I use the K-9 Advantix from the vet. Seems to do pretty good.

The OTC products, no matter what it is, collar, liquid, spray, DO NOT WORK.

Spend the money, go to the vet, get the good stuff. It works. I forget the name of it, but we use the liquid that goes on their back. Besides keeping the dogs flea-free, it also has heartworm preventive in it. Once a month.

Actually, if you are using the product that just controls fleas, you can use it on most dogs every other month and do just fine.

I found it near impossible to get the fleas to wear them.

I need to cross-reference what the active ingrediant is on each, because
the walmart liquid stuff don't work well for us either. I have a
quart of some liquid stuff that i got from mfa several years back, it's
    for
livestock, but works well on the dogs too. Smells like hell though.

May be the same ingredient, just amplified.

I used to use that and it worked great. Then one year the fleas got really resistent for some reason and the vet said it wasn't working for anyone. Shortly after that I moved to my new house so I just gave my dog a once over with a ton of different stuff. Now I don't even use anything and we have no fleas.

Im gonna reccomend this stuff called revolution, you put it on just like any other flea stuff, but this stuff gets rid of fleas, and it protects against heartworms, and other workms, soaks in through the skin.

Remebered the name of the stuff for livestock "spot-on", I I believe.

1-2cc (for 20-30lb dog) on the knap of the neck, once a month works
like a charm. Shewwwwwie, just thinkin about it I can smell the
    rancid stuff.

I once worked for a guy from Oklahoma. Meanest SOB I ever came across. Carried a Colt 1908 .25 in his front pants pocket. He said that as a boy they would take balls of hamburger a little smaller than a golf ball, make a hole in it with their pinky, put a half teaspoon of powdered sulphur in it. The dogs would swallow it whole, the sulphur would come out their pores and ticks and fleas wouldn't stay on them. I never tried it and am not advocating that you do.

old vet trick.....drop a pill of brewers yeast in his water bowl daily and let him drink it. fleas hate yeast in the blood system and will repell.[;)]
you can buy it in any vitamin section of the phamacy.
