Remember Greenburg. Another very nice little town west of Wichita. Best build a storm celler! Yep, Wichita is a nice little town, Pratt is OK, Greenburg was very nice. A fella could sure do worse, Florida for example![}:)]

KS is like Florida in the sense that the largest MTs are the freeway overpasses.

Its a nice place to live, people are great and the weather is not too severe, except for the tornados. Build that "root celler" so you have a place to hide in that rare event that one closes in on your location.

House prices sure are reasonable compared to the West Coast.

Been to Wichita for hail claims. The people are very, very nice. Kansas is a fairly conservative state. I'm not a huge fan of Kansas, and it wouldn't be my first choice as a place to move, but my priorities are likely different than yours.

    There's nothing wrong with Wichita.

Got a close friend who is a international pilot trainer for Hawker Beechcraft Corporation in Wichita. Mike's been there for over twenty years - loves it - and is retiring soon. As far as I know, he plans to retire there. They built a house by a river not far from there.

Wichita is a nice city. i live in Topeka a couple of hours north. We do get more than our share of tornados but you get plenty of warning now with dopler radar and all. Much rather live with an occasional tornado in the area than earthquakes. You get no warning with those. The flint hills are just north of Wichita and are anything but flat. The really flat part of Kansas is the western part of the state. Lots of good fishing and hunting in kansas too. And now we have concealed carry! As soon as we get that female dog out of the governors office it'll be almost perfect.

I was borned and raised for the first 17 years of my life in Kansas, I never went back, In the summer time you have high temp and high humidity and lots of wind, winter time it gets below O cold with snow and Lot's of wind. And growing up in the 30s and 40s being a half breed Indian their was a LOT of presidium, Kansas is the land of the 3 sun's, sun shine sun flowers and son's a Bit*&*&.
    I forgot about the mesquite's and CHIGGER'S

I also live in Topeka. Wichita isn't too bad. Bigtire beat me to warning you about the governor. Anything west of about Great Bend looks like the lunar surface.

i live by st.john & have a cabin on the east side of toronto lake....both are about equidistant from wichita...would recommend east of wichita into flint hills, questa, or the chataqua hill country...rocks, trees, lakes are so much different than western kansas...moving from west or east coast to smaller town here would cut cost of living to 1/3??....last year i had first shot at house south of mine on lake , 2 yr old modular (really nice)on cast foundation with 24x30 frame shop on slab in slowest area with 7 acres of corp access west & south lakeside for $70k, but passed because i couldn't figured what to do with 2 homes there. smaller towns are bedroom communities for county seats or city jobs here....drawback is kansas is property tax based.......dcon12--jmac supply is good friend

I would check it out first, but a better job is as good a reason as any to relocate.

You know how some people treat a rental car different than their own car. Consider central FL the rental car section of the entire US. Where is the best place for pediphiles, rapist, etc to live? In a town where everyone knows about the guy that just moved in or in FL where people move in and out daily?

Traffic sucks, housing has tripled in the past 5 yrs, wages are terrible, it is a right to work state, last year I paid $6,000 in property tax and insurance on just my house. I paid $125k for it 5 yrs ago and am homesteaded. $6,000, I didn't miss type that number.

Did I mention hurricane season is fast approaching, and the next 15 yrs are predicted to be on the higher end of the cycle.

I have to drive 3.5 hrs to go hunting. It isn't worth my time to hunting FL, which would only be a 2.5hrs drive so I also get to buy out of state GA or AL hunting license.

We don't have income tax, but they sure make up for it.

There is a reason FL has its own tag on Fark.

used to live about 50 miles north of Wichita , nice place to live good folks, only really bad thing i can think of is the water sucks and yes it gets darn hot in the summer, but usually a cold snap only lasts for a week or so , not like here in WI where we have it from nov. thru march

I lived there when I was seven years old. Went to the Cathedral School where Broadway crosses Central Ave. Lived on N. Market just a block away. Went back to visit about ten years ago. My Gawd, what a degregation! It has certainly gone downhill. Well I was happy there once and will remember it as the way it was.

Wichita's decent, depending on which part of town you live in. I can't speak for Goddard, do have friends who live in Augusta (sp) just east of Wichita and they love it there.

If your son is into baseball, little league is a big thing in Kansas.
