Anyone know the constant temp and time for heat treating the receiever. I have access to a small kiln and would much rather do it this way then a torch and an oil bucket! LOL
I found it a long time ago and can't find it again,JST

    Short story on flats...
I have tried to build 3 out of flats.
First was a total mess, miss drilled, out of alginment, everything went wrong.
Then used the first screwed up flat to help located the holes and jury rig a fixture to act as drill guides.
That thang had so many welded up holes, was like oblong swiss cheese holes, mig weld globs, and not a straight bend anywhere.
It took me a good full 8-10 hrs, to get basic unscrewed up jig.

Dont measure once or twice!!!, measured every hole with & without the drill guide bushing in place. That mother jig got measured every whichway, to match a old Romaniana SAR reciever.

    Guess what!!!

Not all kits are the same in hole placement.
Then I got a hold of a rough old Maddi $69 parts kit.
Some are dang close but not perfect,
But that Maddi, it was nuts, nothing matched.

Second flat folded good, drilled good alginment of holes good with home made drilling fixture.
Required a full day to get the rails in proper and to basicly rivit it together twice.
    Yeah DUH!!!!!

ANWAY HEAT TREATING-Here in OKC OK there are 4 major heat treaters here. I dropped mine off to Hindenburger Heat Treating, and they "knew upfront what it was & what I was doing".

Phone lady said they have a one ton minimum charge, based on what you required and certification.

Got passed on to the foreman.
Who said they heat treat and certify alloys of 100's of tons a day of alumiumn, and specility aircraft alloys to plain old steel.

Up front he said they would do it at not charge.
As long as I was not in a hurry and did not require any certifaction papers.

It took a them a week, but they did not charge me anything.
Gave the foreman a $20 bill.

They treated my folded flat from 1010 whatever to 1040 with alloy certification.

Check the yellow pages, take your folded reciever, be up front, maybe you will get lucky like I did.

After that, I just bought direct from Mike Friend of "The Firing Line". He is a main source manufacturer/supplier of stamped and milled recievers for some of the best known large 07ffl's & corps.

He is a little high on a single unit, but the quality is outstanding, and is made to match your kit exactly.
He does give some price breaks, the more the cheaper.

Even does some weird stuff 1 off's, saw one of his billet Post Ban RPK beltfeed machinegun recievers, with a post Bulgi kit.

What a work of art, beautiful machining and deep blue Old Colt style bluing finnish. And ran like a stipped ass ape for 2 days straight.
