binocular???

I would like to buy a pair of binoculars. What should I look for in a pair? Anybody have a pair in mind that are good and reasonably priced?

    what is resonable?
    for what?
    Nikon makes an "ACTION" series that is a good value in a full size and a
    "travellite" that is a good compact, both are a little over $100

    I like the monarch, also

    What uses are you going to be putting these glasses through? If you are going to be doing any kind of serious viewing (like bird watching) then you need a very good pair of glasses, such as Leica, or you will soon develope a headache after prolonged viewing.

    Here is a site that may help. It is intended for birders, perhaps the most demanding bino users out there. It applies to hunting binos.

    Porro or roof prisms? What is your budget. $1100 will buy the best there is. $100 will buy binos better than you could buy at any price in 1970. $400 will buy a fine pair that will last a life time.

    10x 42 = 10 times magnification and 42 mm objective lenses (the ones in front) the ones you look into are called ocular lenses. Read her shirt at 200 yards. Ok how big are the letters? 8x to 10 x should do it, but to see a bullet hole on a target at 200 yards you will need a spotting scope.

    15x to 40x is a variable magnification. 70 mm would be about 2.5 inches so this is a spotting scope not a binocular.

    try a pair of Bushnell Perma Focus.... no focusing or adjusting, i think they go as high as 12 power magnification, i have a the compact model 8X and they were only 40 bucks and worth every penny.

    70mm objective lenses does not necessarily off a spotting scope ... check out these binocs..

    What does the size of the objective lens have to do with anything?

    FOV = Field of View. F.O.V. @ 1,000 yds. is 93' at 20X means the picture you see with those at 1000 yards is 93 feet wide. the larger the objective, the more light can enter the scope. The sized and quality of interior lenses however can seriously impact how much of that light is transmitted through the scope.


    Binoculars with 70mm objectives are not however normal hunting binoculars. You would mount them on a tripod to use them over very long distances. Spotting scopes however do tend to have objectives in the 60-80mm range.

    12-120 x 70mm for $149? Right. If you think that is a good bino worth taking home, I will bet you would be interested in this bridge. Notice the frame for tripod mount? 48 oz.? You cannot hand hold such a bino, it has to be mounted; hard at 12x and at 120 the tremors of strong young hands would make it impossible to see.

    Go with Nikon's Travelite 10X25. Compact, clear and enough magnafication to fit most cicumstances. I have 2 pr. been deer and turkey hunting with them for years. For the money can't be beat. E-Bay has had them for $65-$80. Good Luck

    No one commented on the quality of these binocs.

    True enough Feenix, but trc313 is just learning, and big and cheap can look good when you have not learned about optics or that there is no free lunch. I had never seen those before, they kinda scared me.
