Cabelas
Took a ride out to cabelas today. The main reason for the trip was to purchase a new gun. I was after a glock 27 and they had one right there in the case. I got to the place at 10:30 thats only a half hour after they open and it was not very crowded, At least not as crowded as the place usally is. So there I stand at the gun counter that is about 100 feet long. They only had two guys working the handgun section and they were a little busy. Not near enough clerks if you ask me. A full 35 minutes goes by and still they had not uttered as much as a peep to me. In sheer frustration I just leave[:(!]. I can understand a clerk being busy, but these guys walked right past me three or four times on the way to a room behind the counter.The least you would expect would be a little courtesy, a simple "We will be with you as soon as we can, sorry for the wait" Thats all it would have takin for me to stick it out and make the purchase. The worst part was that it was painfully obviouse that the two guys they were spending all the time helping had no intentions of buying a gun. They were typical window shoppers out to see the sites at Cabelas. I too now have no intentions of buying a gun from them ,,,ever.

So they called me the other day to notify me that I could pick up my Remington 700. So the wife and I took a little road trip as its about 40 miles from my house. Went and picked up my rifle and when I was paying for it the guy at the checkout asked me if I was a vet?? Probably because I was wearing one of my Army hats. I answered him well yes I am.
He then told me because of the fact that I was a vet I was entitled to 5% off the rifle which turned out to be $40. I don't know if they do this all the time or because it was near the Memorial day weekend.
Well I must give them a salute for doing this.
On the way home we stopped at a burger joint and they gave me a senior citizen discount without me even asking. I thought that was nice of them to do.
After having lunch my wife wanted to stop at a consignment shop which we had passed on the way to pick up the rifle. She saw a beat up table out front that she liked as she's into refinishing tables and dressers. We strolled around the shop for a bit and I ended up buying her the table for a mere $20.
So this was the first purchase of a firearm in my 34 years of marriage in which my wife was in attendance, so now she things I have 2 of them.[:D][:D]
This morning I shipped the 700 action down to Florida to have a Choate tactical stock put on it and have it converted to a detachable magazine. I should have it back in about 3 weeks.0 -

We drove to the cabelas in michigan to let my daughter see all the neat animals,what an amazing store,some stuff is exspensive but if you watch the sales its not bad,but its worth it just to see all the animals. 0 -
Went to St. Louis yesterday. On the way home this afternoon, swung by the new Cabela's. Was really disappointed! Prices sucked big time on everything! Gun library was nice, but I cannot afford $45,000 for a Kreighoff. [:0] I did kinda drool on it though! At least at Bass Pro, and even at our local Gander Mtn, there are usually some pretty good sales going on most all the time. 0 -
I received a Cabelas gift card from a relative....closest one is 3 hours away....looking online at their stuff, man they are expensive, they are as bad as Gander Mtn and Bass Pro. I guess I don't get the popularity, are they just another trendy yuppie sporting goods store like Bass Pro. Their prices on the firearms stuff is 10-20% higher than many other sites. 0 -

I usually do pretty good at Cabelas in Mitchell, SD.
I watch for ammo sales and get good prices on .223 and 45acp. I am pretty close so I try and get into the bargain cave-there are deals in there but you just have to be there at the right time.0 -

We have a BPS here in Denver and, for me at least, it is like going to Disney World. I turn into a big kid and I can spend hours there, if there was a way to direct-deposit my paycheck to BPS, my wife would probably leave me.
We will have a Cabela's here in 2008. I've looked over their website and flipped through their catalogs for years. I've found them to be comparable in price to BPS. BPS does put on some pretty awesome sales, and I have to admit that looking at the Bargain Cave on the Cabela's website, I've found little bargains that are of any interest to me.
But, I'm excited as hell over Cabela's coming to Denver.0 -
I remember Cabella's first ads in the hunting/fishing magazines. Do you? Seems I recall they were trying to sell 12 handtied flies for the princely sum of one buck. This was back in the 60's.
They've come a long way, haven't they?
And their catalogs? They're huge! So tell me, speaking in an economic sense now, how can they publish and give away free, a large, glossy, brilliantly produced catalog that must cost several bucks to print, to lots of people, many of whom won't even order anything from them?
I wonder if the folks buying from the catalogs, end up paying for the catalogs of the folks who don't buy. Life's kind of funny, huh?
And BPS's catalog is about as big.

I used to shop BPS. Cabela's is all about quality.
I am going over my order history. I spend over a grand a year at Cabela's. I've been to their store in WV but it is a madhouse and not everything is in stock.
They send me 5 catalogues a year. They are all in the camp outhouse.0 -
I was excited about going there. Never been to Cabela's before, so was looking forward to it. Not disappointed with the variety of products, just nothing there (even in the "bargain cave") that was worth the price to me. Year before last we went to BPS in St. Louis. Had great sales going on all over the store. It was about this time of year, and all their spring and summer clothing was on sale literally dirt cheap. Our local Gander Mtn is the same, as far as sales go. And Gander Mtn will match prices from other places. They match the price, plus give you the difference in the price off the product. Bought lots of stuff that way through them. Last year went to Springfield to the Holy Grail of BPS. Amazing store! And the outlet store next door was like heaven!! Even to my wife, and that is saying something! Think I will stick with them from now on. 0 -

I am a cheap meanie and bargain shop like crazy. I will drive an hour to Cabelas to buy something for $15 less than local or on the internet. When I say good deal I mean cheaper than anywhere else in the state.0 -

The large number of supplies is representative of the fact no single supplier contributes more than 10% of total merchandise.
Surprisingly Cabela's largest vendor is not a provider of retail goods but the supplier of paper and printing for the 121 million catalogs mailed in 2005.0 -
I have frequently gotten good buys in Kansas City and Sidney. The St. Louis store was not built the last time I was in town, but I thought the BP in St. Charles was decent. Decee, you need the Cabela's credit card, gives you 1% credit at Cabela's on all purchases, and 2% on Cabela's purchases. That would be $20 on your Cabela's purchases alone. I rack up over $100 a year and have gotten two scopes, a fly rod, a Volquartson trigger group for the 10/22, and a few other items. Going to get a good pair of binos, and then switch to a card with frequent flyer miles for retirement. 0 -

One is coming to Billings, Montana, which is within striking distance for me. This is great news, but will not radically change my life. What really makes Cabela's a success is that their stores are destinations. Everything is under one roof! And the catalogs, which are convenient. I am a "treasure hunter," so something like Sportsmen's Guide is more fun for me. But when we visit a Cabela's once every two years, my wife and I spend a pile. Good quality, fair prices, and the huge variety creates a feeding frenzy. 0 -

Good selection of reloading supplies in Mitchell Cabelas last time I was buying reloading stuff.
I buy EVERYTHING with my Cabelas card to build up the points. I have got well over $1000 in merchandise for free including a new shotgun and other goodies. I have $80 worth of points on it now. That $80 is going to get my kids some good hunting boots.
I make sure to pay it off every month in full or the interest rate would kill a guy.0 -
Living only 38 miles from Sydney, I haven't been to Cabelas in over 4 years. Back in the early-mid 90's I would find myself there twice a month spending way too much but it was quality stuff, made in USA. That was their mantra back then. Then daddy cabela handed it over the boys and shortly thereafter the chinese wal-mart crap started flowing in.
The original bargain cave was great! It was in the basement of the original downtown Sydney store, and oh yes, there were bargains. Those disappeared with the old store.
Well, anyway, why drive all the way over there, when I can get the same crap across town?0 -

The Boise Idaho Cabelas is nice and big and full of of high priced stuff. Poor selection for reloading, Bargain Cave could cave in for all I care. I really like all the mounts. The Elmer Kieth exibit is cool. 0 -

There is some in the catalog, but I wouldn't know the best from the junk. Midway would likely be one better source.0
