    Same question here in North America. We know the Indians hunted mammoths, but did they exterminate them?

    was found all across Australia. Rock art in the Northern territory demonstrates that. Then, dingos were introduced by Indonesian fishermen and the devil began to disappear in Australia. being gone long before Europeans arrived there. Not much of a stretch to immagine aborigianal people hunted the last of the Australian megafauna. North American aboriginals certainly hunted the last few megafauna here, like mammoths.
