Best Gun Oil?

What do you guys use/think is the best gun oil?

I use hops as a solvent/lube and rem oil.
I think the rem oil is too watery.

    Hoppes is not for lubrication, is it? Though it leaves a film to retard corrosion.

    Do you mean that you think Rem Oil is too thin? It doesn't have any water in it does it?

    I've got to where I just use the Outer's kits, since all the guns I have now are in excellent condition, for regular cleaning after firing. Their gun oil is great, in my opinion.

    Hoppe's ELITE gun oil. metal conditioner, superior lubrication, and corrosion protectant..I keep a spray bottle of it in my range box, best I ever used..[:)]

    Not much difference in my opinion, as long as it's GUN oil. I use Outers currently, but when that's gone, I'll buy some kind..For cleaners..same thing..what I have I use. I have Hoppes right now. The point I believe is to use GUN supplies. Not carb cleaner, not bleach, not transmission fluid. It isn't that expensive, so why substitute?

    Using substitutes is not a good Idea here in Florida.. the humidity is fierce, WD-40 attracts moisture and your gun will rust overnight.

    Oldgunner is right,, they make gun oil for a purpose,, to use on guns ..[:D][:D]

    You guys should checkout some AMSOIL products - I use both the MP & MPHD, they are awsome products.......and no, i'm not an AMSOIL distributer. seriously, you should check them out.

    1. Hoppes has solvent and lubricant in it.

    2. If I meant too thin I would have said too thin. Does rem oil have thinner in it?

    3. Are the outer's kits for outdoor use only?

    I probably have 5 different gun oils on my cleaning table. Lets see Birchwood / Casey Synthetic, Break Free CLP, Outers Tri-Care, Rem Oil and Hoppes #9 Lubricating Oil that is what I can think of off the top of my head. But I may have a few more. Can really say which is the best, I use them all. I oil the gun after cleaning then put them in the safe. When I take them out of the safe (before shooting) I wipe the oil out of the barrel, chamber and bolt face. Then wipe down the exterior of the gun. After shooting I repeat the process all over again. Like what was said earlier "just use gun oil" . I think any brand will do for the average gun and shooter.

    I read one other topic like this one, and there were several that liked Mobil-1 so I saved a few ounces from the last oil change and tried it. It does stay on the metal's surface and lasts pretty well, but I sure miss the scent of Hoppe's.

    Hoppe's ELITE gun oil contains no solvent..Thats Hoppe's 9.

    I was told by a retired gunsmith to NEVER use WD-40.

    I don't use WD-40 for anything and it should never be near a gun. It is a water displacer, not a lubricant.

    I use:

    Tetra gun grease
    Gorilla grease (on muzzleloaders)
    Breakfree CLP
    Castrol synthetic gun oil
    Rem oil
    Butch's gun oil
    Gunslick graphite lube

    They pay polymer scientists big bucks to develop lubricants for particular purposes. Using WD-40 as a lubricant or 10W-30 motor oil is pretty Luddite.

    Thee very best that I have found is the Wilson Combat ULTIMA-LUBE
    grease and oil.
    I use a lot of Tetra products also.
