IMO it was pretty sad. I know prespective is important, and thisgunshow has traditionally been Milsurp oriented. And I have foud good milsurp deals there in the past.
Nowdays I'm into collectible .22 rifles. And the prices on these were ridiculous.
For example, I can't count how many beat up Steven's Model 15's (one of the most COMMON) I saw w/$150.+ price tags. When I could go to nearly local pawnshop and get one for $50-$75. I bought my 1940's vintage model 15 HERE on GB, in EXCELLENT condition for $68. INCLUDING shipping and FFL receiver fee's.
And anything less common was even more ridiculously priced!
I did see a Winchester Model 67 I was interested in. $120.
But the vendor WOULDN"T SELL it to me bacause I didn't have an FFL or C&R.
WHEN DID THAT START?
I suppose this is all good news for the auction sites. IMO I can get better deals here anyway. including shipping and FFL fee's.
And if I can't buy one of the few and far between good deals I find at a gunshow, why go?

I was there and enjoyed it. I bought two Winchester single shot .22s.
A grooved stock model 60A and a 67a Youth model. They weren't real cheap, but they are both in extremely nice shape. I also like to look at the rifles that I'll never be able to afford.
I got to talk to 5db, Jim Stark and Matwor. Matt and I went out for a nice meal after the show and then sat around and played "Can you top this?" until about 10:30 pm. Just about more fun than an old man can handle. Matwor is a class act, you all need to meet him.[^]
I think at a future show, everybody should wear something identifying GB membership. I have had the good fortune of meeting several members over the years and it's pleasurable to put a face and a personality to a screen name.
I do think there was more miscellaneous junk tables at this show, but the good still overshadowed the bad.0 -
I quit going to shows because of "buyers" who wanted me to give them my stuff, telling me they could get it for XX price elsewhere.
Example: Rifle on table, wholesales for $140. I have it marked $179. Buyer offers $100, says he can get them all day long for $100.
My stock answer: "Go get me a 53 foot box trailer full of them, loaded nose to tail, stacked to the ceiling. I will pay you a 10% finder fee. We both make money."
Never got any takers.
Then, I found Gunbroker. No tire-kickers, no hagglers, very few deadbeat bidders. No loading up, hauling stuff, wasting a weekend, loading up again, hauling it home, unloading it til next time.0 -

I hate I missed you guys! I was there too. I bought my first AR-15 and am looking forward to learning about it (I'm clueless about these rifles). I just know enough about them to know that I did get an outrageous deal on it though!![:D]

Praise and rant:
I just got back at 3 a.m. this morning after an 11-hour drive, and I had to be in my office before 7 a.m., so I'm a bit groggy. But I had a good enough show as a buyer. The dealer I help at the show didn't sell as much as he would have liked, but he doesn't like to negotiate too much. I had one goofy but memorable experience by being the first one in the dealers' doors Sunday morning -- kind of like an unknown driver winning a NASCAR race. (OK, it wasn't the Daytona 500 Saturday morning, but still felt kind of neat.) The remodeling-induced porta-johns worked out OK, and the air conditioning was good once it got working Saturday. As fatstrat noted, the prices on many things were a tad steep. I, too, am into the .22 single-shots. Fatstrat and I may have actually jostled each other to see who could flee more quickly from the same overpriced Favorites (sorry for the elbow to the ribs, buddy). There were lots of other examples of sellers who were extremely proud of their routine wares. Examples: I saw a Stevens Little Scout in fair shape, but some fool had welded a steel plug two inches into the chamber end of the barrel (and it was the scarce 18-inch barrel! Ouch!). Also, the ejector had been brazed over, plus the stock had the usual cracks at the wrist. He had a $150 tag on it for a so-so parts gun. Not exactly a bargain when you occasionally can get actual shooters in that condition and in that price range or even cheaper. Also saw a Hamilton Model 27 in very average condition. I have 8 or 10 and have never paid more than $150 even for the deluxe 027, but he wouldn't come down from $275. But I did get a fair-to-good (nice metal but crack in stock) Winchester 1902 for $85, a good Stevens .22/.410 parts gun for $45, a really clean Springfield/Stevens BA SS Model 15 for $65, and a fantastic deal on a Savage 24 Camper for $150, so I can't complain too much. I found every one of these guns by mid-afternoon Friday, nothing Saturday or Sunday. Overall, my question has to be who in heck thinks someone will pay some of those prices? I saw another Springfield 15 just about identical to my $65 one, but it was priced at $235 -- for a single-shot that's not all that collectible and didn't even come from the factory with a buttplate? I saw an old DA .22 Victor (tiny revolver, like a Young American) with the hammer spur busted off and very rougly filed. It was about a $40 gun (I have several so have at least some sense of value), but the "seller" (and I use the term loosely here, because he never will actually be one for this gun) insisted it was an original pocket model so didn't come with a full hammer. Uh...right... and I suppose the file marks are factory cartouches? His price? $250, non-negotiable (no, there's not supposed to be a period after the 2). Even with my limited knowledge, I'd have bet him $1,000 he won't sell that gun for within $100 of his asking price in the next 30 years. Sellers, please don't flame me thinking I'm picking on you or stepping on your rights. I know sellers get to set the prices, but check the market first, maybe. That's why GB is so great -- sellers and buyers can get an idea of what people are willing to pay. For guns someone really wants to sell, an educated price would go a long way toward averting disappointment for both sellers and buyers. And for those sellers who did have reasonable prices, bless you! You help make the big show so fun. Thanks, also, to Tulsa for being a good place to visit. Loved the warm weather! I just wish I could find time to make the fall shows as well as the spring ones.[:)]0 -

Why doesn't Gun Broker have a booth there? There were several competitors of theirs there. Gun ListDigest was there. Then they could have a meeting place for forum members where we could get free booze and massages and NAH IT AINT GONNA HAPPEN 0 -

Matwor: I don't recall what you told Scotty, but I assume it was about Friday shopping (?). If so, I couldn't agree more. I've heard the Friday "phantom table" deal (pay for a table at $130 and get two early passes, but no actual table) is being replaced by a flat $75 admission for Friday, but it's still the best way to go if you want to find the most good deals. Saturday and Sunday are largely for fighting the crowds and staring at amazing guns with even more amazing asking prices. [;)]0 -
sad to say i didnt make the show this weekend..[V] but i did hear alot of stories about it.the prices where ridiculous.and the table prices for the next show are going up to 125.00 from 110.00. im thinking i will start staying home and saving myself and wife the hassle of it all. maybe make the wildcat show a time or two again.
