Cleaning/Restoring leather
Hey guys,
I picked up an original german ammo pouch from WW2 today that is in great condition even though it is 67 years old. Anyways, I am sure that it accumulated a lot of dirt, sweat, grime, etc. over the years and I was wondering if anybody knew of a good way to clean it up without damaging it. I figured there must be a household cleaner out there that would work and not dry out/harm the leather and then figured a good healthy coat of polish might be good to help protect it. Any ideas?

Go to a leather goods store of a Harley shop. They should have something for leather. 0 -
There is NO good household cleaner you can use. The leather seat crap in the auto stores isn't worth a damn either, mostly water. Go to a feed store or leather shop and get some Lexol. Cleans, preserves, and will not hurt the leather.
DO NOT APPLY NEETSFOOT OR MINK OIL. Both damage the leather in the long term.0 -
Eagle One leather care products. I can't find what I used for saddle soap for my McClellan saddle, but clean it first with a saddle soap then use the Eagle One. It brought the old sadle out of its funk. 0 -

Mink oil hurts leather? I've put it on my Danner boots for 16 years of steady use and it hasn't hurt them. How does it hurt it?0 -

Oh ok that just surprised me when I heard it was bad for them since I've always been taught it was great for boots.0 -
