Surefire flashlights
WHile I was in St. Louis earlier this week, I broke down and bought a Surefire flashlight when we were at Cabela's. Brought it home. Turned it on. Was truly impressed at how bright it was and how much heat it puts out for a little light. Had it for about 90 minutes.
Then I promptly lost it somewhere in this house. Haven't seen it since Wednesday morning. It's really pissing my wife off.
FOund it. I put it in the night stand. Now I'm waiting for Mrs. Plaid to come home so I can shine it in her eyes [:o)]

yeah, surefire is one of the best flashlights out there, not cheap, but worth every penny. 0 -
I bought a GUIDE SERIES tactical light from Gander Mountain last Sunday, and it's still hanging around my neck on a lanyard.
And WOW! I still have trouble believing how bright it is. I can hold it about 12 inches from my face, turn it on, and not only does it blind me, but I can actually feel substantial heat on my face for the few seconds I leave it lit.
The RAY-O-VAC TAC impressed me....but this thing amazes me. The package claimed 150 lumens, and to my way of thinking, that's bright, real bright.
If I lost mine, I'd be the one mad. Mrs. Sahagan wouldn't mind at all (she's getting tired of my sneaking up on 'er and shining the light in her eyes).

A curently serveing USN Seal showed me the one he bought with his own money. His wife thought it was too expensive. I thought it was cheap if you life depended on it. Myself, I'd wait for daylight. I really like my headband 3 bulb Streamlight. Hope it turns up as it sucks to loose nice things. 0 -

I believe "LUMENS" are a measurement of the Light/time the bulb will last.
Candle-Power, denotes the amount of brightness.[;)]
But then again, i used to think that the people that got killed, in movies, were people that wanted to die, so they let themselves be killed, in the movie...[:0]

A buddy had one and lost it. While we were at Cabela's he was going to pick another up. They had one @ 1'2 the price. It was a Cabela's brand one. The salesman told him that Surfire made it. He bought it and it is just as good as the one he lost. 0 -
lumens are equal to candle power, measured slightly different

Cool....a body can't help but learn stuff around here, huh?
However, I'd like more information on that little tidbit if it's available. I make sufficient mistakes on things I know about, not to be casual about the things I don't know about.
And I wonder why candlepower as an expression of brightness isn't mentioned in the ads? Shucks, the brightness of this little light, if it's size is taken in relation to my 1,000,000 candlepower spotlight, surely must be enough to brag about in the sales descriptions.

Edited to add....oh yeah, this light uses three three volt batteries, which gives it nine volts I guess. Looking at various catalogs, I see many of them use 6 volts.0 -

I scored a brandnew $190 Surefire Aviator A2E on Ebay last year for $110. The white light has 50 lumens and the blue LEDs have like 15 lumens. Everyone I've shown this little torch to has wanted one. They are impressive! 0 -

The Surefire lights are great! I absolutely love the G2's! I carry one on me at all times with a 65 lumen bulb and another I keep in my toolbox at work with a 120lumen bulb, I also have one on each of my ARs and love 'em, great for the stray dogs in the trash in the middle of the night. I am sure glad that my employer keeps the batteries in stock and they don't cost me anything cause I literally use mine all the time for just about everything!0 -

I have several Surefire lights and I have never paid for the name. I pay for the quality and service I receive from them. I have had a few other light that were called good too, but they are not even close. I had the next closest in the market 60 lumen light mounted on one of my guns. After firing a few times I found the "non fixed" bulb had fallen out, it could be put back in and works fine, just not on a gun. It makes a decent hand light, but still not as good as the Surefires. I broke one of my lights out of my own fault and called to order the replacement part (~ $100) they would not take my money and sent me a new one.

Lumen -- Unit of measure of illumination, equal to the amount of light that comes out of the hole resulting from cutting 1 square foot of surface area from a two foot diameter (one foot radius) opaque non-reflecting sphere at the center of which is a candle of certain defined characteristics burning under certain defined conditions. (A dinner table candle is roughly equivalent but I do not know the standard candle's exact measurements, wax material, wick length, or the other defined conditions.) A sphere two feet in diameter has approximately 12 square feet of surface area and the total light emitted by the candle is therefore around 12 lumens. Since the candle itself blocks some of the light, the amount of useful light from the candle is more like ten lumens, which many published references use as the definition of one candlepower.
lumen-second is a measurement of time, it does not apply here at all, if it did the bulb would last as long as a flash bulb0 -

Please tell me, what do you pack it in? I've been using the expensive Surefire leather holster that doesn't live up to it's price or the Surefire name.
That's after a couple years normal wear, not from using it to slide down cables or what-not. Since that photo I've re-stitched it twice. I've looked for anything remotely useful to carry the light, including holsters designed for other lights and things like collapsible baton holders. I hate nylon/velcro holsters but may end up using the one Surefire sells.0 -

I use the Nylon holster. I bought the one that you can unvelcro from your belt, not sure why but it seemed like a good idea at the time. I had to replace the velcro on it about a year ago as it was getting pretty weak, but did still work. The only other problem I have had was that I fell asleep in a chair at work. A few mins later I woke up feeling very warm on my side and something was burning......... Well it was me. The light go hot enough to burn through 2 layers of heavy nylon and was making me very warm. My partner sure got a good laugh out of it. I still use that holster I will have to get some pics up of it and the light.

I have there cheapest one, the "G2" I think it is called? Really like it for hunting, very bright, very light, and durable.
