Physical Feats
Being living proof that Neanderthal and Cro-Magnum interbred, well atleast once anyway,I have always been able to move rather large objects without much trouble. Had an MRI once and the doctor wanted to know what large mammal I had some bones transplanted from. He was thinking bovine. I guess I just have one of those physiques because women have always asked much the same thing. Must be my multiple six-pack abs[how many six-packs in a keg?] So when my 100 gun safe had to be moved a bit to make room for a gunsmithing bench I didn't think to call around and wait to see who would show up to help. It wouldn't slide easily on the concrete floor of my shop because the front was catching on some imperfections in the floor. So I did what any dumb ape would do and picked a corner up to move it over or around the imperfections. The good news is that I got it moved and the new bench is in the perfect spot. The bad news is that when I woke up today my left elbow wants to stay bent. It hurts so bad to stretch it out I coudn't even scratch my ass on my way to the toilet. Makes for a bad day when you can't scratch your ass first thing in the morning. Some rituals one must maintain else' civilization is all for naught.
Well, there you have it. How the mighty have fallen. Not even 50 years old and a half ton causes me problems. Sure is no wonder why old folks are so grumpy what with all of the sore joints and itchy butts.

Yeah, so welcome to the club. Trip over a garden hose, and now I can't straighten my arm all the way, nor can I bend it up enough to use it to blow my own nose. 0 -

Yeah, came a time when my wife and I looked at each other and had the same thought (this happens more and more often - 25years together and counting) - we are both on meds for arthritis - and we both said: "Now I know why our parents drank so much in their later years!" 0 -

Barkingdog, there used to be a feller here called Mudge. He had a tag line that said:
First you forget your friends.
Then you forget to zip up your pants.
Then you forget to zip down your pants.

I hate to tell you son, but it's going to hurt for a long time. Then on day you'll notice it doesn't hurt anymore. You'll feel young and vigorous. You'll feel like you could take over the world if you were of a mind to. Then you'll make a sudden move and it starts all over again. Welcome to the rest of your life. I've been young and I've been old. I like young better. [:D]
Hope you get better soon.0 -

Last week my dad, who is in his 60's, and I were standing some 16' long 10' 2x6 walls (they were sheathed and had some large headers in them). It was about all we could do to raise them. That night and for the following 2 days I could barely turn my head b/c of the pain in my neck. 10 years ago, I would have raised those walls by myself.[^] 0 -

I started writing a journal when I was 7-8 and learned to write the words down. I call it a journal rather than a diary or an autobiography because it is my take on the weirdness that has always been my life. I will publish it when I have an ending or need the storage space. I write little 300 word opinions and short stories for the local paper from time to time. Since my hands crapped out I can't play my guitar much anymore, so I have started writing more stories and don't much bother writing songs. Once in a while though one just jumps out and then, there it is, you have to do something about it. Then I grab my twelve string and go to a club to relive the old days. I found that 6 or 12 double Ceurvos and a six-pack of Becks will temporarily cure whatever is wrong with my hands. God Bless Jose' and all of those chubby little German elves that make the golden elixir!0 -

this is why we have elderly.
we are suppose to be learning and watching. because Lord willing, someday we will be there.
this is what happens when we shuffle old people off to the death camps...i mean old folks home, i mean nursing homes. old folks were suppose to live with US, around US, as part of US, so we could learn what awaits us. a lot of our surprise is due to not listening or heeding what is happening to the seniors. by golly, an older fellow pistol shooter told me when i hit 50, iron sights would be worthless to me. i ragged him about using stupid red dot sights. well, he was RIGHT! i need glasses to see the front post now and it all makes sense. think it out, go do a search on gb and tell me why there are so many 22 pistols for sale with red dot sight set ups? odds are they werent used long because the shooters got old and died! an old MSGT koren war vet marine still serving when i was in, joked to me when i was in my 20's and was able to run circles around him and said, bob, once you hit 30, fat starts sticking and it takes a few more miles to get rid of it. he was RIGHT. im lucky if i can walk 3 miles now.
i count it a privilage to be join the gray hairs. 1. because it means i lived long, and 2. i ran the race well and i can afford to goof off now.
i never knew why mom would bring me to so many funerals growing up. uncle this, aunt that. neighbor friend here, factory worker friend there. now i know. all my friends are leaving too.
now i only wonder, who will come to mine.....[;)]

You remind me of me. About six month ago I had to raise up a water heater about 8". I know if I tried to man handle it I would being paying a price in pain for quite a while.
So being older and wiser I came up with a little hydraulic gizmo with camper jacks, and raised the water heater in a couple of minutes with so little effort that it was embarrassing.
I was smug for being so smart for several days after.0 -
When I was young, I thought there was nothing so large that I couldn't move it. Then when I got older I realized why old guys had invented levers, fulcrums and pulleys.
He Dog, The signature you are trying to remember was:
First you forget names, then you forget faces, then you forget to zip your pants up, then you forget to zip your pants down.[:0]0 -
Sometimes I forget that I am not 25 anymore. Things like this are a good reminder for atleast as long as the pain lasts. 0 -

I am a big ole strong guy. Usually, when chopping firewood, or working construction, I am the strongest guy on the job. Sometimes I have even showed off a little, picking up extremely heavy objects that I knew the other guys couldn't lift.
When I was in my late forties, I hurt my back rolling around some giant 3 foot diameter oak blocks that I was chopping, as I was impressing the two tree surgeons who were cutting down the tree, and now I go see a chiropractor every few months.0 -
