My Snow Day!!!!
It's started to snow yesterday morning. By around 3pm we had roughly 6 inches of heavy wet snow. I got out the old plow truck and plowed my road. Truck ran mediocre at best. But I figured get it over with now and when I get up tomorrow (today) I will only need to plow a couple of inches.
Boy was I wrong. Got up this morning to 10-12 inches besides the 6 from the day before.
Here is a pic of the 1/4 mile long driveway I need to plow.

So I go out and take a few pics, start the two trucks, S-10 and Plowtruck. I start to plow and about 15ft in become stuck.

After shoveling snow for over an hour and ripping off the plow truck bumper and bending the frame, got it out. But, I either disintegrated the Univerals or stripped an axle, don't know, don't really care which. Managed to get stuck about 4 more times, due to a poorly running engine, the grinding/stripped whatever and the extremely heavy/greasy snow.
On my last pass I dropped half my exhaust and the gas tank that leaks the least dropped halfway out of the truck.
My day can't get much worse, took the S-10 into town just to get out for a bit and the clutch is slipping. It couldn't be from all the towing I did earlier.
I had a real fun snow day how bout you.

To think... I was bitchin about it being 83 yesterday...Finally got a cool-front. 77 out today, down to 62 tonight..
I hate it for'ya Ruger..0 -
I can't afford to do much to the truck. It was bought as a single use vehicle. To plow and nothing but. The frame was rusted, but the engine ran and the hydraulics worked.
I have another 86 GMC for parts with a completely obliterated frame. It looks as thought I need to start stripping it.0 -
Oops, I'll bet you don't do that again..ie put off today what can be done tomorrow that is.[:I] 0 -
If you have lock out hubs on it check for a stripped hub first before you look to much further, or short side axle shaft..it looks like a 3/4 ton is it?..can't beat them and parts are everywhere here..[OHIO]..auto or 4speed?...what yr is it?..if it has a 205 transfer case [gear driven] they are worth 800-1000 dollars by themselves..I just sold one that was mated to a 4 speed..for 1250.00..Loko..[:D] 0 -
There's your problem GM, you need a For
Off
Road
Duty0 -
86 3/4Ton 4spd but only goes in drive neutral or reverse. No choice of drive gears.
I was thinking it might be a hub, have the lock hubs, one is Warn and the other must still be factory, no markings on it.
My parts truck is a 1/2Ton but I hope that the parts can be hobbled together. This truck will never see the road again so I don't care if it is street legal or not.
Alot of the problem today was extremely wet/greasy snow with poor tires. I need to buy four new ones with aggressive tread but money doesn't allow it.
If the plow truck dies, the S-10 has good BF Goodrich All Terrain's and can make it up the hill pretty much no matter what.
I would have plowed again last night but the forecast was for a couple of inches not what we got.0 -
well you could always move into the city and get yourself a nice short driveway .i'd put up with the bad snow day if i was you .........

I would love a tractor! As it is I just scrape by. There are so many jobs around my house that a tractor would make easier.0
