Motorcycle Roadracing

Cutiegirl's thread got me thinking about bikes again. Thanks Traci-I didn't want to hijack your thread! Anyway,I am VERY connected/somewhat involved in one of the top privateer roadracing teams in the country. Used to do a little myself. I actually raced against,and beat,Dave Despain,if you know who THAT is.[8D]

Some of the older names are coming back now-Kenny Roberts,Freddie Spencer(my favorite),Eddie Lawson,Wayne Rainey,Wes Cooley,Mike Baldwin,Kevin Schwantz,Scott Russell and many,many others. I remember when Schwantz was racing WERA!

Too many before them to remember-Agostini,Duhamel,etc.[^]

    Ive been watching AMA Suersprt and Superbike and World Moto GP racing since I first saw it on t.v.,I have been infatuated with the Isle Of Mann TT from the first 5 minutes of one of the races I saw. There is no other motorsport like true motorcycle racing. The only thing that comes close is World Rally Racing. I have raced my bike in production class races and drag events down here several times. I love it.
    I remember when Harley Davidson was trying AMA Superbike and had Pascall Pichot(Spelling) on their bike and it wouldnt stay running long enough for him to win races which was dissapointing because even though I dont care much for Harleys I would like an American race bike to dominate again. I wish I could remember the name of that race bike,its on the tip of my tongue and I cant get it out.

    ISLG's,Joey Dunlop is the Man of Isle of Mann.

    It's Pascal Picotte and he is/was very good. Ever heard of BOTT? Shawn Higbee?

    I wish I could get some bike racing on TV. Sometimes I can catch NHRA motorcycles but otherwise it is all motocross which I find boring.

    I wanted to grow up and be Kenny Roberts or Evel Knievel.[:)]

    Warpig,do you have Speedvision channel? Occasionally they show some on ESPN2,but very rarely.

    Joey Dunlop was awesome while he was around. He ruled big bore bikes and dies racing 250cc's go figure. David Jefffries is good,Ian Duffus just about any of the Isle Of Mann racers. They have the best on bike cameras for that race too hands down. I dont watch NASCAR this is my picked poison. Do you remember the name of the Harlet race bike they tried to kick off with a few years back because it is driving me crazy trying to remember? I'll tell you who has been storming are those Hayden boys. There are so many good racers in all divisions its hard to even keep up with all of them. AMA has got good ones but they all swap over to MOTO GP.

    no it wasnt a Buell it was before Buell went into full swing production thats actually where Buell got alot of what was done to the design of his Bikes it was a real Harley Davidson race team though and I swear it was like the VR1000 I think but its driving me crazy. It was all black and it was fast too I mean it was running with everything else it was just breaking down all the time and had one driver who I thought was Russel and he left and they picked up Pascal Picotte and then he left too. So goes the struggles of Harley davidson and its a shame too because Harley dominated in the beginning and Indian and now we cant even build a descent enough bike we are being smoked by the German,Italians and especially the Japanese. I wish America would put out a true sports bike and not a Buell.I do like them and they handle very well but even with the race package my 750 will smoke the 1200. I wish America would build a REAL street bike that wwas affordable like Japanese bikes so we could start taking that market and advance back into racing based off that successs. America has got to get over the twin though we need an American bike with a high revving inline 4.

    It was in fact the Harley Davidson Vr 1000 Race Team and it went on alot longer then I thought it went from 1994-2001 and had a pole position in 1996 and put Pascal Picotte on the podium in 2001. Like I said it was a fast bike just engine trouble constantly.

    ISLG, are you thinking of Miguel DuHamel? Before him there was Gene Church on a XR1000 based bike called Lucifer's Hammer, if I remember right. Before that there was the KR(750 I think) with Cal Rayborn and Mert Lawwill.
    Speaking of IOM, remember Mike Hailwood on the Honda 250 six cylinder bikes? Those things turned 22,000 rpm. In the sixties no less!

    It may have been Duhamel but I have only ever known him to race Honda's.I thought it was Scott Russel and he got fed up with the problems Harley was having with the motor and backed out and got picked up by Yamaha and Harley took on Pascal Picotte. The VR-1000 was an awesome bike I wish they would put some of that into a good street bike for us that want that without it costing $30,000.00+ you know thats why American products get shoved aside alot because either the quality doesnt match or the price is just to high.As much as you might like to buy only American its impossible. They either dont offer what you want,what they do offer isnt as good or to exspensive and you can argue with your bank book but I would love to see them street a bike like the VR-1000.

    FUGAWE you were exactly right I thought it was Russel but it was in fact Miquel Duhammel who started that program in 1994 and them went back to Honda and Harley picked up Piscotte. That 3rd link I have down there tells the story of it.

    Duhamel was the first to race the VR1000 in '94. He briefly led a couple races but never won on it.

    Duhammel is a bad bad man on a bike always has been. Him and Honda are like peanut butter and jelly. You can have one without the other but its just not as good.

    I got my BS degree in 3.5 years. Since I finished early I thought I should use the time I saved to get a Masters Degree. I will be done with the Masters in December.
