Paintball Gun Help

Any advice, info, opinions, web sites would be appreciated. Grandsons want them for Christmas.....I guess I have mixed feeling about them.

    The only half way affordable one i can find that doesn't break, is a Tippmann 98 Custom.

    MAKE SURE you get him a Mask.
    The CO2 can be dangerous..
    Shoots pretty hard, But it can be adjusted, take it to a paint field and ask them to adjust it.
    Im 15, I love paintballing, but it gets expensive with the price of the paint and equipment.

    EDIT:

    When a buddy and I went, we spent maybe 6 hours at the paint park, went through 2 1/2 cases of paint.. About $200.00 (I had gift cards [;)])

    How old are they? Do they plan to go to paintball facilities and compete, or just shoot at each other in the woods?

    They are 11 and 15 and will be in the woods mainly..

    I don't have a clue about the guns, but I see huge cases of the paint balls in the Wal-Mart clearance section all the time.

    Find a good paintball specialty store and spend some time asking questions. Paintball Central in Greensboro NC used to be a good store. Bought my son's gear there. Very helpful.

    We started renting guns then purchased later. We bought good face shields and safety gear first and guns later. Actually a fun family activity. Took son and daughters regularly. And don't forget to play yourself. It is a blast. I found that if I was involved with them there was less of an issue with the typical "over the top" enthusiast. We only played at monitored fields in organized games. It can be a dangerous sport. Good luck! Rusty

    I bought 2 paintball packs at Dunham's Sporting goods, one for me and one for a friend. I think they were around $80-$100 per pack. They include Tippman 98 Custom, face mask, goggles, barrel squeegee, barrel plug, and 20 oz. CO2 canister. You can buy those packs from anywhere... Wal-Mart, Meijer, K-Mart, Dick's Sporting goods, pretty much anywhere. When I bought them, I got both CO2 tanks filled and my friend and I paintballed for about 3 hours on the first day, and 2 on the second day. There was still CO2 left in the canister, so it takes a while to run out. I think that may be a gift that you would even enjoy with them.

    I never did like Tippman 'cos they were odd shaped and weight distribution was off. I'd get the 11 year old a Spyder or other knock off like Piranah. Air Gun Design for the simpicity and mid range paintball gun. Perhaps a elctro-powered number like an Angel (AGD also makes e-gun) for the 15 year old. Electro is big bucks (like a first beater car prices to practice dent... I mean parking[:D]). When the 15 year old starts to drive he'll hand down his paintball gun (or buys himself one he likes).

    I would go look up gear on paintball online sites. If you know what they want you might look on ebay for new or slightly used guns ('cos the seller's over there nursing a broken leg and Viccodin isn't cheap[:D]).

    At those ages, and not planning on competition I'd suggest the Tippman 98 Custom. If you can find the package deal mentioned by robbie_light_04 that would be perfect. It has everything they'll need.
    Try to find a local paingun shop to fill the Co2 tanks before you give it to them, otherwise it'll be a bit anticlimatic to not be able to shot them for a few days after Christmas waiting for a shop to open.
