Pistol Safety Saves Officers Life!

An Officer (In his 40s) here contacted 3 people (in their 20s) who were arguing. For no reason the three jumped the Officer and began beating him. One got the Officers S&W auto and held it to the Officers head, repeatedly pulling the trigger and saying he was going to kill him. No fire-safety on. The person pulled back the slide twice and tried to fire several times again. Safety still on, two live rounds found on the ground at the scene he ejected. Suspects finally ran away, lucky the Officer was not carrying a Glock. No matter what you say about weapon retention, when 3 people suddenly attack you, you may lose your weapon. A gun with a safety may be a good idea.

    I agree that all LEOs and other security/safety people should carry a firearm with a manual safety. That few seconds of confusing someone who gets a hold of their gun can save their life, just as it did in this instance.

    Or it can cost you your life when you are in a high stress situation and lose fine motor skills which delays your ability to take the safety off.

    I know a guy who got jumped by two armed attackers, who tackled him and took his 1911 out of his waistband and shoved in between his buttcheeks. He said the guy was trying to fire it, but didn't know how to operate the safety. Why they didn't shoot him with the gun they brought, i don't know. Maybe the guy who had it wasn't as ruthless as his gay friend.

    But most cops don't practice more than twice a year. The reason so many departments went to glocks is because they are "cop-proof".

    Thats the nice thing about carrying an H&K P-7. If a thug got it from you, they wouldnt know what to do with it.

    I wish I could carry my USP cocked and locked again. I don't really have anything against the glock, but I much prefer the HK.
