How Many Have Learned To Love Your Debit Card

I use credit cards or pay cash but a debit card is handy. My oldest girl is away at school so it is very easy for me to just deposit the proper amount into her account each month so that, unlike a credit card, her spending cannot get out of hand (like her mother's [:(!]). I also have the statement mailed to me so I get to see just what the money is being spent on. After three years of this there have been no problems at all [^].

It's hard to tip a topless dancer with a debit card. [:D][:D][:D][:D][:D]

Unless she lets you swipe it.

Debit cards have their place, but you should consider something when deciding whether to use them in place of cash.

Using plastic removes an emotional connection between the transaction and the actual money involved. When you have to dig out actual dollars instead of swiping your card, you tend to think about what you are doing and actually spend less money.

Remember when the fast food joints recently started taking plastic? When I first saw that, I thought, "Who is going to use plastic at McDonald's?" Turns out, a lot of people do, and McDonald's marketing people found that an average customer spends 37% MORE when using plastic than when using cash.

Coca-Cola found that revenues in vending machines went up over 100% when they rigged the machines to take cards.

Your money, your choice. I use cash whenever possible.

I am with you Zip. I pretty much use mine for everything. If a place doesn't take them...I just get annoyed...and never shop there again!

unlike Nunn,I use my debit card for everything That is why I went 7 years on an expire drivers lic because I only wrote checks to mail off my bill and they dont require an id so I never looked at it.
And I moved so I never got a renewal notice,,,,big mess so now I keep an eye on my drivers lic.

I don't have a debit card. If someone gets it they can empty your account. No protection at all with it. I use a credit card for everything and pay it off every month. It it is stolen there is no liability to me at all. Having a debit card is dumb! My credit card balance is ZERO![:0]

Tell me, debit card users, about security. If your card is lost and someone spends your checking account dry, what happens?

If your debit card has a MC/Visa logo on it then you have the same right to dispute and protections as a credit card PROVIDED a pin # was not used for the sale. Since the perp would only be able to do swiped or internet/phone sales then you would not have much fraud liability past a nominal deductable.

Use the CC all the time. I also get a percentage back depending on what purchases it is for. Also no membership fee etc.

It is currently buying me a gun. :)
