The 1911 I know nothing thread
As a lot of people here know, I'm a revolver lover. However, I have always wanted a 1911. I had a chance to get this Auto-Ordnance from a friend for what I thought was fairly reasonable, $400.00 FTF. I had originally heard it was a Para, but oh well.
Now I know that the AO is not supposed to be the primo performing 1911, I figured if it functions it'll probably out shoot me. It came with what's in the picture, 5 mags, US holster and web belt, papers, mag pouch, cleaning rod and 4 boxes of 230 grn .45 cartridges. If I can't get it to shoot, it'll make a fine quality trot line weight.[:D]
Now to clean it and see if it blows up in my hand. As I stated, I know nothing.

If it's a post Kahr buy out Auto-Ordnance, it's suppose to be at par with any other entry level 1911's. Good luck and please post a range report. 0 -
learning to clean it will teach you wonders, here is step by step instructions

it's not hard at all, if you get stuck don't hesitate to ask0 -
I bought one new (pre-Kahr)in box for $550. It's all fancy from high-gloss blue to the beavertail and really light trigger. Then I read some horrible reviews on it, so I just took it out and shot the bejesus out of it. It was very accurate and fun to shoot.
It never failed to go bang, and, despite the warning right on the magazine to only use 230-gr fmj in it, ate up everything from Cabela's bulk re-loads to 45+p Sabers (I don't recommend these, or any plus-p at all for an Auto Ordnance).
I did notice after the first few thousand rounds, my AO shot loose like a baby rattle, but it still functioned reliably and surprisingly, didn't lose much accuracy. However, I did have a competent smith tighten it up and it's shooting better than new.
One last caveat: You may feel an urge to run out and buy more 1911's. I'd highly recommend that you do. Buy a bunch of them. Do whatever it takes. Take a second job. Sell your furniture and cash in your children's inheritance. It's easier than trying to resist the Circes' call of the 1911A1.
In my humble opinion.0 -
yep, I've seen a lot worse for 400$, even "if" you don't like this one you'll get a better idea what you want out of a .45. 0 -
Considering the extras I'd say you are right there in the ball park!!!
I happen to have had one of these puppies... Oddly enough I just sold it for $375 one mag and none of those extras!!!0 -
Not bad. But for the money you coulda had a brand new RIA![;)][:o)][:D]
Of course I am partial![:D]0 -
Looks like a nice setup. Have fun, and welcome to the club...of 1911 owners, that is. 0 -

My grandfather by marriage was a Marine DI that shot for years on Marine teams. I have seen him rapid fire and they all went into the bullseye and maybe one would be edging out. He would say $#@, "Ill never win the nationals like that", and he never did. However, he taught me to strip and clean the .45 when I was 12 years old and I got really good at that. I wish he would have taught me how to hit something with it.[:D] I did clean it and took it out and shot three mags through it. It functioned well, but I probably won't be posting any targets for awhile.[:0][:I]
Oh yes, Like JamesRK says, "Revolvers are pistols" and it seems like they shoot closer to where I aim. But I'll keep trying with this bottom feeder[:o)].0
