job hunting

well i had a job interview this morning. it is for the state of nebraska at the omaha correctional center as a plumber. i think it went pretty well they said that they only had 3 people to interview as of now, so my chances look pretty good. as soon as i got back from the interview i got a phone call from the city of omaha to schedule an appointment with the public works department. i took the test a couple of weeks ago and there were about 200 people taking the test only 121 passed. they rank you according to your score and i am ranked #12. i think they are looking for about 25 people for this job. wish me luck.

    I have been working partt time at a local gun store for the past year . The owner informed me last nite that we will shut down on nov3 . Sales have been flat for the last six months and the big boys ie Dunham?s etc are selling the same guns we carry at prices that are below our cost. Guess I will have to start job hunting again

    I will have an MBA in December and have been doing a bit of job hunting lately.

    I really want to work for the government and had two interviews this morning. One with the BIA and one with SSA. Both look pretty promising. As soon as they heard I want to be a government bureaucrat and live in rural SD,ND,WY,MT they were all over me. MBAs can make much more money in the private sector and most don't want to live in rural areas so they were all over me.

    Also had an interview with a major retailer (not wal-mart) as a corporate management trainee-this one was really good and they already started talking a starting wage! If the government stuff don't pan out I may go this route.

    Talked to Cabela's and could jump into their management trainee program also but I would have to move to NE[xx(]


    This is very uplifting as all the part time jobs I have applied for lately I have not got.

    Even a blind pig can find an acorn sometimes- I can smell one close by![:D]

    Boudreaux applied for an engineering position at a St. James Parish Refinery. A Yankee applied for the same job and both applicants having the same qualifications were asked to take a test by the manager.

    Upon completion of the test, both men only missed one of the questions.

    The manager went to Boudreaux and said: "Thank you for your interest, but we've decided to give the Yankee the job."

    Boudreaux asked: "And why are you giving him the job? We both got nine questions correct. This being Louisiana, and me being a cajun I should get the job!"

    The manager said: "We have made our decision not on the correct answers, but rather on the one question that you both missed."

    Boudreaux then asked: "And just how would one incorrect answer be better than the other?"

    The manager replied: "Boudreaux its like this, on question #4 the Yankee put down; "I don't know" You put down, "Neither do I"

    If you have other options, why in god's name would you want to work for the government? The majority of people working for the government are there because they can't get a decent job anywhere else.

    Plus, you have a huuuuuuuuuuuuuge amount of red tape there. I'd avoid it.

    I like government work and the places where I want to live the government is the largest/only employer.

    At my age and position in life money is not everything and not my main priority. If I was interested in money I would take one of the unsolicited financial or management job offers I have had. There are recruiters at the MBA school all the time-I have been offered $60,000 as an entry level trainee if I wanted to live around the right or left coast.

    Yep, I know what you mean. I retired from military service 19 June, took 20 days permissive TDY, and started civil service work 10 July while in terminal leave [:p].

    Been there and done that. I now have the phone numbers and fax numbers of the Human Resource officers who do the hiring[:)]
