Campers
for next year i have started looking, pricing and researching campers. i love to tent but with kids now and all the stuff that goes with camping we never find time to go. for the work it takes i won't go unless it is for 4+ days. But if we had a little camper where all camping gear was stored ready to go i would go for a day or two. you know get home from work friday hook onto the camper and go, when you bet there unhook and level and open.
so my biggest decesion is wheter or not to get a pop-up or cabin camper. i don't want anykind of RV just a small pull behind camper. what has been your experiences or which would you recommend.
might take a look at this one if it still there in a few weeks, no to my grandparents camp and i have to go do my dues of mowing the lawn in a few weeks.

My wife and I tent camp, but my good buddy that we normaly camp with on holidays has a large trailer. From talking to him, I gather that it takes just as long if not longer, to get it ready than it does for me to pack up. Plus the maintenance on those things can be expensive. And it limits were you can camp. We never camp at developed campgrounds, it's much nicer by ourselves back in the woods, but its hard to get one of those things very far off the main road. Plus they drive all the way out there and their kid just wants to stay inside and play video games or watch t.v..[V] 0 -
Popups suck, and cost just as much as regular ones. Don't fool yourself, it is JUST as much work to go camping with a camper.

i know there is still work involved but if everthing is in the camper you can hook up and go. yes you still have to get food ready and some cloths but all utensils, pots/pans, sleeping bags, flash lights, radio, water, ... is in its place. 0 -

Get a used 1960's airstream in the 18'-22' range. Easy to pull and when your done with it sell it and make money. Here is my 66 safari. I have had 4 of these babies and will never let this one go. IMO 0 -

Fleetwood (formerly Coleman) makes one with a beefed up undercarriage and bigger wheels and tires that was made to go into places that you normally wouldn't pull a regular pop-up. Nice rig!

I did break down and add a/c on it. I know that sounds odd on a pop-up, but hey, I'm getting old! And it does make a difference!! Also bought a used screen-room to add to the outside. In the fall and spring, the kids like to sleep in it, and it gets you away from most of the skeeters at night.
As far as time...it isn't really quicker. We do keep all our camping gear (except for clothes and food) packed in rubbermaid containers, so that is no problem to throw in the car and go, but still have to get the rest packed and loaded. You can't really keep it stored in the camper either. Not much room when they are folded flat!0 -
We camp in a Jayco Kiwi which is a hybrid. It is hard sided with a small bathroom, kitchen, and two dinettes. It has two bunks on each end that fold down and makes into two queen beds. We started out in tents, then moved up to a pop-up, and moved up to this one about 4 years ago.

Jimbowby, do you sleep in that thing or just haul your stuff? If you sleep in it, how complete is it? Tiolet, stove that kind of thing. 0 -
I've had two trailers and a fifth wheel, and I still prefer tent camping.
Prepping a trailer for winter, and then getting it ready for summer are each a pain in the ass.
I love all-weather tent camping, and I have all my gear in one closet. It takes me about a half hour to fill my water cans and ice chest and another 15 minutes to load up and go.
With a trailer, you still have to deal with filling your water tank, dumping your gray and black water tanks and keeping the gear inside from getting nasty over the winter.
Any way you slice it, it's going to take 3 or 4 hours to get ready, including shopping.
If you buy one, buy it because you want it, not because it will save time and money (I know your sick of waking up stiff and sore, and can't get the idea of a nice, soft mattress out of your mind).

-[8D]-Yo Azhunter, these are pretty much custom built and they carry all your CAMPING GEAR inside ie: stove/clothes/water/food/cooler etc---
--You can get them with the 5' by 8' tent ,but I don't sleep in a tent so mine is just to carry "STUFF"--

Very nice , but my F-350 4x4 supercab longbed with custom A.R.E. color matched steel shell hauls every thing I need. I was just thinking of the advantages of a camper, warmer, indoor toilet, indoor cooking in bad weather, and so on.

Here is the way I camped. 31', walk through bath with garden tub, queen size bed, stereo, built in microwave, full size refrigerator, central heat and air. It's called "Roughing it."[:D]
I sold this camper two years ago when my wife got to sick to go. I really miss going out on the road.0
