I have the superchips and can't say enough good about it. I think they have an application for you.

Some cars are governed to only run a certain mph such as 100. Sometimes the chips remove the top-end governor[?]

    what cars would that be?

some commercial trucks are governed, but i have never seen a car sold to the public governed at any speed

My oldest daughter's Mercedes C230 is electronically limited to 130 mph and I have no interest in removing that limiter (although she does). My youngest girl's Jetta is also limited as is Mrs. K's ML 500 is and their limiters stay put. My S550 (purchased two months ago) and the SL500 which I "share with my wife" are both limited to 155 mph and those limiters have been removed through reprograming/remaping with AMG software.

These Programers are the reason Ford stopped using the 6.0 Power stroke. And is currently Sueing NAVSTAR.
It was a Bad design to begin with, and adding another 60hp just helped BLOW them up faster.

pry having only ten head bolts/hd on the 6.0L is the real reason they have problems.....Christ ten head bolts on a diesel!!! the engineer should be hung by his you know what...... i have a programer on my pickup with 7.3 power stroke, i run it at max does make lot more HP at that setting....my excursion has 6.0L power stroke has plenty of hp for just a driver and not a puller.

why screw with something that is designed to save you money? you go from point a to b and then you park it. its a car. its a tool. and there are speed limits.
    why the need for HP?

Because you can chip it to save you even more money. You can tweak the 'puter to get better mpg also, not just hp. Been thinking of doing it to my '97 Powerstroke. Anybody got a brand they prefer for the Ford F-350 Powerstroke?

I used the same superchips tuner on the 97 and older powerstroke makes some difference but because the tuner can tell from computer that it has no intercooler so will not make as much hp as the 99 and newer powerstroke have a intercooler. far as mpg doesnt help

I've chipped, slammed, stroked, bored, flaired, frenched, shaved, channeled, tubbed, stretched, dubbed, juiced, chopped the top, lamboed the doors, flamed and scalloped my ride.
Ohh and I put a system in it too.

Yes, I made up the term "triple-chipping".

As you state, one would need to change out a heck of a lot of other stuff to get HP boost like that. I also don't know if it was a sustained rating or a boost for the shorter part of a minute.
Major changes, adjustments, and tweaking to get the car to run right.

the 2 cars that have computers/injection are stock
play a little with the truck, but not much right now till i get the tranny finished
on a side note i was working on cleaning up a carb at work one day and one of the kids (who knows TONS about injection/chipping) asked if he could ask a question...sure...how does that work?
thinking he meant a specific part i asked how does WHAT work
    the reply?..."a carburater"
    instantly felt like a dinosauer!

Most German High end cars are limited to 155 MPH but in the last few years that has been uped. Mine will run the same 155 in 5th or 6th gear it also has a RPM limit I worked for IBM for 32 years and todays cars have more compute power then Large mainframe did 20 years ago. They also keep a record of the top speed you have gone since last resat so be aware if it shows faster then the factory chip they can tell you have modified even if you put factory chip back in . But You can reset[:p][:p] and then they will never know.

2005 VW Diesel Golf is 100 HP and goes to 135
More impressive is the torque, 170 ftlbs to 235 ftlbs and still gets 45 mpg.
