Question for car mechanics-UPDATE

I went out today to use my car, which was covered in about 6" of snow. Under the snow there was about 1/2 inch of ice from rain that froze. I started it up and the blower for the heater, A/C, defrost didn't work. Neither did the rear defrost. It has been very cold here for nearly a week we had highs of about 10 and lows between -5 and -15. I drove my car on Sunday and everything worked fine. I talked to a friend and he thought that maybe it's just from the cold and when it warms up it will start working again.

The car is a 1994 Taurus with about 193,000 miles on it. What am I looking at price-wise if I have to replace the blower? Thanks in advance.




It finally warmed up today to about 40 degrees and melted all the snow. So this evening I went out and started up the car and tried the heater--it worked! Tried the rear defrost--it worked too!! Apparently it just didn't work when it was so cold. Don't have to mess around with installing anything on it.

    check your fuses. the rear window defrost works on electrical. no blower. also the blower is electrical. they are probably on the same circuit. with the cold weather maybe the grease in the blower froze up and caused the fuse to blow. im not a betting man but i would put ten on it.

    Never thought of that, that's a lot cheaper than a new blower. I'll check that tomorrow.

    It is suspicious to me that it failed in very cold weather.
    Get a little bathroom heater, run an extension cord out to your car, and heat that thing up for an hour or two. Maybe it will work when it is warm.
    Otherwise check fuses

    My car is also behaving....strangely in this very cold weather. I start the defroster and the windows go from clear to foggy! UNTIL the car reaches operating temp, when they finally actually clear. At first I thought I had a bad heater core, but no, just the mildly warming air on the window is causing the very cold air inside to melt just enough so that it flash freezes on the inside of the window, then remelts as things heat up more. I've heard noises I've never heard from the car too. Very odd. Very cold!

    I too would bet a fuse first... now as to why it burnt out that's the question.
