Wisdom Teeth
The past months my wisdom teeth have been coming it, but yesterday they hurt like HELL for the entire day, but oddly enough, i woke up today to find, they didn't hurt anymore? Can anyone tell me what this means and if i am gonna need to get em pulled?

Got a wisdom tooth pulled today. Way back and lower right. He numbed it up good and had a helluva time getting it out. Didn't hurt then, but it's starting to now! Dentists have much better ways than they did when I was a kid. It was awful back then. Now I'm almost 65 and a little dumber I suppose, cause both wisdoms are gone.

i have to get all 4 of my wisdom teeth pulled tomarrow. i think i'm doing to die!!!i hate needles!!!!!!! everyone says its not that bad, ya right, whatever! i just hope i dont come back dummer than i am!!!!!!!anyone have any advice??????? 0 -
The last two come out tomorrow afternoon. I'm glad I'm a vet. The VA hospital in Minneapolis is pulling them for free. 0 -
How many still have them? How late can they start to surface? I always thought that if they hadn't in your 20's, they wouldn't surface, but I have one starting to do so.
They have never bothered me before, nor are they yet fortunately.

Are they just coming through? Maybe you're just teething. Mine came through when I was twelve, long time ago. I wouldn't worry, next time you go to the dentist he'll tell you as long as he isn't getting a kickback from the oral surgeon you should maybe listen to him, maybe not. 0 -
My twenty-year-old daughter just had hers cut out TODAY! So far, so good. She's pretty doped up and bleeding has slowed a bit. Using LOTS of gauze and painkillers. I'll be her "nurse-maid" tomorrow to be sure the bleeding doesn't increase. Hers bothered her for weeks--dentist said they'd have to go. Oral surgeon did the trick. Best wishes on yours. [:)] 0 -
I still have mine....I'm 38 yrs old now but I had to have some teeth pulled when I was 13 and had braces on my teeth when they were growing in. Most dental people take them out. If they start talking to you about doing it....just go for it...and have a "nurse" to stay with you during recovery. You will need it. I stayed with a couple of people that had that done. Its not easy right afterwards but you recover really fast from that type of thing. 0 -
When I had my first two wisdom teeth pulled, I was down for about a day, and then back up and around.
The first one was pulled at basic. When I got back from getting my percoset (sp?) prescription filled at the base hospital, my platoon was getting smoked, and all of their stuff was dumped out on the floor. We had to sleep on the floor for the next two nights.0 -
For some people getting them pulled is no big deal. Took my son in to
get them yanked when he was 17 or so. He was pretty loopy when he came
out, but never missed a beat and was doing the teenager thing by evening.
At 49 I've not had to deal with them yet..does that mean I'm not wise
yet?[;)]

If ya gotta get one done, get'em ALL done at the same time. Don't go thru the pain 4 different times. I had mine pulled after basic and the Dr. Star Trek at Great Lakes did a good job. I hurt (dull,throbbing) for about 2 days but was back to drinkin' full bore on the third.[:D]
My brother had a civilian doc do his. Did 2 at one visit and then had to go back a few weeks later for the other 2. He shoulda listened to his big brother. Twice the visits and 4 times the pain.[xx(]0 -
I went the slow torture route - one at a time over a period of maybe 15 years. Can be done while you're awake like any other tooth pull if you're just having one done. Drive yourself home, pretty much normal day afterwards. Nothing hot, nothing crunchy for a couple days. 0 -
There is no way to know whether you need them out or in without X-rays. See a dentist.
Most people of my acquaintance, including me, my two boys, my ex-wife, my mother, have all had to have the wisdom teeth removed. I had mine out when I was 19 and it was a good experience. All four at once, under anesthesia. Big bottle of pain pills to take home. I never hurt, but I did lose four days.0 -

Your wisdom teeth (or, to properly phrase it, your jaw bones) should been X-rayed when you were a teenager. This will let the docs know if they are going to grow out at an angle, and damage other teeth of yours.
YOU NEED TO HAVE THEM PULLED IMMEDIATELY! If you let this problem go, you can get an infection in your gum line, and this can cause serious trouble.
This is no laughing matter. If you don't have them removed soon, there's a chance you'll wind up in severe pain, and sustain permanent damage.0 -
I had three removed many. many years ago. The first two popped out like they were spring-loaded, waiting to fly out. The third - top left - took almost two hours in the chair, bent several dental instruments in the process, required removal of additional bone all around it, bled like a stuck pig, required many stitches and felt like the great Rocky Marciano hit that one part of my face repeatedly. It was so far to the back of my mouth and so terribly impacted that the tooth's roots grew into hooks within my upper jawbone. Lots and lots of fun.[V] 0 -

Mine did the same thing. I think they try to push through the skin for awhile and then kinda lay off for awhile. Identical to my experience, I'd get them pulled. Better to do it now than after they've screwed up the rest of your teeth.0 -
Its best to get them removed anyway to prevent crowding. Without the wisdom teeth in the way, your other teeth have room to align properly instead of overlapping. 0 -
The pain ya feel is just the monsters pushing thru, time to time this will happen,possibly for the next year or two! unless ya have a problem with the overcrowding or closin ya jaw, let nature take its course..the pain will go as soon as it comes ..no big deal..[;)]

Mine did the same thing. I lost the tooth next to one of the bottom ones (busted apart) because they had used it as a fulcrum while prying on the wisdom. Worst part of the experience....... I had a job interveiw the next day in a different state. The guy I rode with got the job, and I rode a greyhound home. [xx(]0 -
Had my bottom ones pulled. It was a horrible experience. The top ones are coming in sideways and there is no way the dentist can pull them. I gotta go to the oral surgeon this summer and get them removed. I would rather go to the dentist because its a lot less expensive but the oral surgeon will be a lot less uncomfortable in the long run. 0 -

Mine used to bother me from time to time,but that's been years ago.
Never did anything with'em and it's been many years since they've given me any problems.

had one done last summer,..no big deal. Mine was cut in 2, then pried and broken out in several peices. I guess maybe 1/2hr while sucking down all the nitrous oxide I could get (hey I'm paying for this,..so I want all the fun I can have while this gas mask is on me).
Mine are all impacted. The oral surgeon (one who seems more honest than most) said that only the one needed to come out. He said the other bottom one seemed ok by the x-rays, even though it is sideways like the other one was. I said "why not take it while I'm in the chair",..he said there was no evidence of irritation in the surrounding tissue, so no need to go digging around in the mouth. My tops are way up in the bone near the sinus cavity,..but pointing down as the should be. He said NO NEED to mess with them,..they are just up there doing nothing but waiting to replace a molar that might be lost sometime during life. If a molar is lost,..the wisdom tooth will drop down.
also,..the honest surgeons now say that a wisdom tooth is NOT a bulldozer,..it won't hurt other teeth around it. If it isn't irritating the gums/tissue/bone,...leave it where it is. Just like tonsils,..they now only remove them as a last resort rather than S.O.P.

Ironically, I did just that with the one wisdom tooth left in my mouth and it very quietly destroyed the back of the molar directly in front of it over time. Didn't feel a thing until one day a chunk of the molar simply popped off and I realized that my tooth was broken. The wisdom tooth was pushing up and in on it. Not salvageable so it went bye-bye and the wisdom tooth stayed, leaving a big gap between my last molar and it. Had I opted to have it removed - despite the dentist's reassurances back then - having another molar in line would have enabled me to chew my food more easily.0 -
had mine cut out when I was 16. One of them was wrapped around something. Dentist said I might be numb on one side for a little while or life [:0]. I was numb about a week. That sucked. I also got a dry socket on the other side, which then got infected. 0 -
i remember having my wisdoms teeth removed. i was 22 in college and worked as a waiter. grand total of all the dentistry was $1600. 4 filliings, 2 stainless steel crowns (one is now cracked and i need to get it replaced soon) and all 4 wisdoms removed. i went to work that evening with no complications jaws full of gauze and my tips were huge for the next 3 days. 0
