New ATF ruling re: FFL's - Good news!

I received my ATF newsletter today and they have determined that e-mailed copies or faxes of FFL's ARE acceptable! Although faxed copies have been ok for some time, they never decided if e-mailed attachments would be ok as well. Great news for those sellers without a fax machine!

    Not that it any of that ruling applies to me but it always appeared that the entire ATF record keeping and licensing regulations for dealers were about 15 years behind the times! Am I correct that dealers need a special variance from the ATF just to keep their records on a computer [:0][?]. I think that you'd be hard pressed to find a business of any real size in the USA that still keeps it's inventory and sales records in a hand signed ledger, which is all that the bound book is if I am not mistaken.

    I always thought the buyer was the one who had to furnish a copy of his transfer FFL?
    and then the selling FFL needed to send a hard copy with the firearm.

    not to bring negative to something so positive, but i bet we hear a lot of bs here about ffl's not honoring it, we have heard enough bs about ink color as it stands

    Yeah, it will take a while for some to accept. We are just now getting over the "will accept fax/red,blue ink" thing like you pointed out.

    This is a good thing. Now if we had a widely used online payment system, like PayPal, it would make buying online pretty much instant for all.

    You're right, they do. That's why I didn't mention FleyBay or say to use PayPal. I said LIKE PayPal. One that will allow firearm transactions.

    If I am doing a transfer for a buyer, I send my license out to the seller, so in a sense you are correct, but the "buyer" must have a ffl, either his own, or a licensee, to complete his purchase.

    The bad news is that Batfe are concentrating most of their efforts on licensees without a store front.
    If you sell out of your garage, storage locker, or only at gun shows; they want you real bad, and will send you "straw Buyers" or prohibited persons that will mutter stuff like, "Got that Felony almost 6 years ago, do you do private sales?".
    A word to the wise is usually sufficient.

    Who would know the difference between a faxed FFL and an E-mailed FFL once they had been printed out?

    I use a service called Call Wave $ 7.95 a month. Gives me a local fax line # and sends the Fax to my computer in PDF from. I can retrive these PDF's from any computer with their program or log on to view. No other cost for incoming.

    For sending you do need a scanner, or a copy of your FFl saved in computer $.10 for out going Fax's.

    Has helped a lot with FFL's and invoicing.
