Have you ever heard of this?
I usually take up for Wal-Mart on Rant threads about them. Usually because the rants are full of mis-info about how bad W-M treats it's help. That I know to be un-true as my daughter and several friends are W-M employee's.
But this takes the cake. I just back from TRYING to get my oil changed at W-M. I've got an "88 F-150 w/nearly 300K miles on it that I've owned for 10 years.
I change the oil every 5K. Doing every other change at home, and have every other done @ W-M to get it greased.
So they pull it in and shortly later the service MGR calls me to tell me he won't allow service on my truck. Reason being that someone besides W-M has changed the oil since the last time it was in.
I told him A. It's none of your business who I have service my truck if W-M didn't. And B. for your info it was ME that did it at home. USING oil and Fram filter bought @ W-M.
Then he said he won't touch because my OIL PLUG was "non-standard". I said "What the HELL ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT? That the SAME PLUG that's been in that truck since I bought it! And that you have removed and replaced for countless oil changes.
My daughter works at that store and after Christmas I'm going to find who the store manager is and what this MORONS problem is. [}:)]

I was working on a 350 engine, putting on the intake manifold and carb when my girlfriend came out and asked if I needed any help. Said sure, remove the oil filter and put on that one. I'm working away and after awhile she crawls out from under it and asks if there is a pipe laying around anywhere's...not paying attention I point to the corner of the garage and keep working.
On a chevy smallblock there is a piece of metal held to the block with 2 bolts, that is what the oil filter screws onto. She busted it off the block. Was turning it the wrong way.
Needless to say I was amazed. Fram oil filters are pretty strong.[:p]0 -
Nobody works on anything of mine for any reason. Just bought the wife a stereo for her 'splode for christmas and the outfit I bought it from (local mom & pop)was flabbergasted that I was going to install it myself. After the wife opened it I said that we could take it down and have them install it, but I would have to stand there with my 357 to make sure it is done to my standards so I might as well do it myself.
Another thing about those oil change places is they all use Penzoil or some other garbage that I wouldn't even run in my chainsaw chain oiler.0 -
Well , just One More reason to stay far-far away from Walmart and the B.S. evolved from them ...and Thats what you morons get for spending good money there ...Ha!Ha!...we have a local 'shop' that changes oil and lubes , all for $15.99 , owned and operated by a real nice gentleman thats been doing 'car service' for many years !!!
Why Not spend money with a small local shop that knows not only what they are doing but understands the term "customer service" ???????

Just another thought...... I too have had some of the issues you guys are speaking to in regard to incompetence about oil changes. First problem is it's where every auto service center "trains" (so they call it) their beginning employees. It doesn't matter if you take it to a dealer or WM, YOU need to make sure it's done right with a thorough inspection before you leave the lot. A very close friend is taking his 2007 Nissan Pathfinder to the dealer for everything and they forgot to put oil in his truck from his last oil change...... guess what???
My wife's Acura goes to the dealer just because it's easier to have them do it and believe it or not, they only charge around $40 for a complete oil/filter change and 50 point inspection, which is also good since they KNOW Acura and what to look for.
I do my old 96 Dodge diesel myself since I have plenty of room under it for all my reaching and tugging.
It's always best to get torque settings and torque a plug because everyone has an idea that it must be gorilla tight..... not true.
One thing I would insist on at WM is NEVER let them use that Loctite on the plug because it tends to give the user a false sense of threading and they are more likely to crossthread it. When I use WM I also make them use MY filter (since I use a high quality diesel filter) and I watch every move until they finish. If they don't like it, I simply drive off. no problem so far.
It won't matter WHO screwed it up when you lose an engine due to someone else's mistake, it will sure be painful to deal with.

I change my oil place every time. I did a dealer once and they forgot the filter when they finished, oil all drained out. It was ok since I didn't pay anyways, I get my oil changes by doing secret shopping and get my money back for them every time. [:D] 0 -
