    Is an M249 bolt carrier a NFA controled item?

    a buddy of mine is in the service and has a personally owned weapon. m4 with a 3 shot burst. he would like me to hold onto it while he is deployed. what is the legallity of this. am i able to have it in my posession.

    if individual in wi sells his suppressor on GunBroker, he has to ship it to a class 3 dealer. Is there a $200 tax on that transfer?

    The address on the paperwork should match your location. If not , I would not advise you holding on to it. And if it does, I would not advise you shooting it without his presence.

    can i still transfer it even if it is a military or law enforcement only gun?

    I agree with the advice provided by the funny blue cars' owner.

    He can not transfer it to you...you need to go through a Class III dealer, he'll keep it in his possesion until the application is approved by the BATF.

    If that gun was built after 1986 it cannot be transferred to you unless you work for a govt. entity or are in law enforcement.

    All the owner needs to do is get a form from BATF and put your address as where the gun is. Lock it up. You cannot shoot it legally without his presence.

    what about after he gets out of the military. does he have to get rid of the gun

    I don't know how he obtained the gun or the circumstances to keep the gun. Alot of information would be on the paperwork. Most likely he should sell it prior to getting out or forfeit it.

    He could disassemble the rifle and put the receiver into a safe deposit box at a bank. Depending on the length of the upper you could hold onto that for him as long as it's not under 16" if you have an AR-15 in the house.

    If its his personally owned weapon, why wouldn't he be able to own it after he's out?
