Brazilian Steak House
Has anyone been to one?
While out in San Diego over Christmas we went to Rei Do Gado Brazilian Steak House downtown San Diego and it was pretty darn good![:p]
Basically, they are a "one price (for the salad bar, appetizers, and main course) eat till you drop restaurant", but it isn't inexpensive! Dinner for 4 with wine and dessert will range from $250-$350 (with tip) depending on the wine selection.
They have a great salad bar, but I'd advise moderate consumption of the commodities and save lots of room for the meat![:D] They offer you 17 different types of meat served on skewers after slow roasting over mesquite. You have a small cylinder that looks like a salt and pepper shaker on the table; it is red on one end, yellow middle, and green on the other end; when the green end is up the various meat servers will come to your table with different types of meat just off the roaster, but when the red end is up that signals the meat servers to pass you by because you are either done or taking a break before the next eating binge.[:D]
If you haven't been to one, you should at least try one!
If you are not familiar with a Brazilian Steak House, here is a link to the one we went to in San Diego.

Yep - we have Brazilian BBQ here. TONS of meat, and yes, skip the salad/food bar and put the marker on green until you burst from all that meat. They do try to trick you with the sausage and chicken but I hold out for the beef/tenderloin/ribeye!
Now I want to go...0 -
One just opened here, but I haven't been yet.
I don't think it's a chain though.
I'll try it after the "mobs" are finished![:D]0 -

Looks like the closest ones to us are Dallas, about 90 miles, and there is one in Austin.[:(] The next time we plan an overnighter in those areas we will have to try them![:p] 0 -
My friends treated me to Fogo de Chao for my last birthday. It's an orgy of meats. They give you a coaster that's green on one side and red on the other to use as a signaling device for the waiters. At the end they serve a papaya dessert that's supposed to aid digestion. I thought it was a great dining experience. 0 -
We've got one here called Carnaval Brazilian Grill. Great for the meat lovers, and they make some funky side dishes, too. Fried bananas, cheese bread, twenty or thirty kinds of meat, huge full-to-bursting salad bar.......
We got a gift card from a client this year for that place, I think we'll be going soon.0 -
Yoli's in Vegas.

During one of my respites from the "meat fest" I had planned to go back and try the fried bananas since they really looked great, darn![:(] However, the roasted pineapple was great![:p]0 -

$35 ain't bad for that kind of service. I suppose drinks/boose is separate, yet, it still sounds like a good deal to me .The wife and i are thinking of renting a cabin up in Ocala for a week, just to kik-back. Any of y'all live near there? Maybe we could get-together, and go to Ipanema far dinner.
I'm not too sure when we'll be going up, maybe in April-May.0 -

I just saw the Boizao in Tampa the other day (across from the mall, right?) I've been thinking of trying it, but for lunch with my shop staff... wonder if they have lunch and if it's half as good as dinner? I'll have to check it out...0 -
Went to my first one last year in Orlando during the Shot Show. I'll try Yoli's in Vegas next Feb. 0 -

Yes, across from the international mall.
I have been there both for lunch and dinner and did not notice much difference. Same meats as far as I could tell. Maybe fewer items on the salad bar. Less prosciutto and some of the cheeses. They had a special price of $19.99 for lunch but I'm not sure if this will still be available after the holidays as they were pretty busy the last few weeks. I would make a reservation if you take a group as their business has really picked up.0 -
I went to one in Utah and it was some of the best food I have ever had. 0 -
Went to Boizao Tampa last week for lunch. 3 of us, no drinks (water), dessert and coffee all around. $115 inc tip. This was the full lunch (all cuts) not the limited they indicate is available on their website. No mention of a limited menu was made at the restaurant and even if it were I was pretty damned sure I didn't want to be limited in order to save $5.
I've had time to digest so I think this will be an accurate assesment.
Food was good. Not great. This isn't a put down, afterall it is just roasted meat. But some cuts were extremely salty or fatty/greasy (usually I complain becaue restaurant food in FL has no salt/spice). The salad bar was nice. Brazilian, different, fresh, good. Service was great. Never a wait to get some more. They seemed to bring all cuts out equally also; they didn't stick you with a 5:1 chicken:filet mignon ratio. And there was plenty of rare meat to go around too. Dinner rolls were great. Unrushed. Uncrowded. Pleasant experience.
Would I go back? Maybe, when I'm dying to try to devour a whole lamb or cow... Expensive lunch, but I didn't feel ripped off, so the price must have been right for what we got.0 -
Fogo de Chao.......mmm. That's a bargain there. $50 all you can eat good meat; did it in DC last summer. 0
