E-Bay's at it again----
They seem to be tightening the screws on gun related objects even more....

Hello everyone.
In mid-August, we will be updating our Firearms, Weapons and Knives Policy to place more restrictions around gun-related items. Once these changes take effect, we will prohibit listings of any firearm part that is required for the firing of a gun. This includes items like bullet tips, brass casings and shells, barrels, slides, cylinders, magazines, firing pins, trigger assemblies, etc.

They might as well shut down their hunting section. I guess we will get more of that on here now.I hope. 0 -

Not yet, but just give it a bit of time, remember about a year ago or so GB (Great Britain in this case) was seriously talking about banning chef's knives. Not to worry, this things have a tendency to adjust themselves over time.0 -
Well, I'm sure I'll catch all kinds of flack about this but that's one of the benefits of the free enterprise system. Sure, I'd love to sell gun-related items on eBay but there are other venues such as Gunbroker.com.
eBay got bad press when the Virginia Tech shooter bought magazines on eBay so they're going to stop offering parts for firing mechanisms including magazines. Still, that's their right. Dairy Queen doesn't sell guns nor does our bakery, our home improvement center or the corner bar. Are they anti-gun? Maybe - or maybe they want the right to sell or not sell whatever they please. As consumers, we have the right to patronize them or not. As much as I wish I could decide what someone sells, it's not my right but that of the business owners. That's one of the great things about our country, at least so far - we all have a choice.0 -
Spider, you're correct, it was bad press that did it this time, but it's still upsetting.
And DQ example is not appropriate here.0 -
Since when has a bullet tip been a necessary part of firing a gun? 0 -
Do you think people who come up with these policies have any clue about anything firearm related except that it's evil? 0 -
Spider, I agree with you. Unfortunately for sellers of those type items I believe they will see a reduction in their selling prices and volume if they have to go elsewhere. eBay has the largest user base, so more competition for items, especially hard to find items, consequently higher selling prices. Maybe this will draw more users to GB and other firearms related sites, which will benefit the GB sellers. 0 -
What exactly is a bullet tip? 0 -

Because Flea bay is not doing so well on wall street. Flea bay sales are flat. Paypal's gains made for an overall growth figure but it was a slim one. Fees are way to high and scams abound from sellers. Flea bay screws its customers a lot by not caring about the scams. Fleabay is now just another big guy that forgot its American roots.
By removing a big and growing category of harmless objects Flea bay will feel better. It will make good press in NY and San Francisco. It will also make a lot of customers mad over yet more asinine rules.
Sales on flea bay are going to suffer, maybe not much, but every drop is bad for business. Sales suffer the stock suffers. Watch it happen. I will never use ebay again; EVER. I may be just one out of 6 billion but revolt has to start someplace; it might as well be with me. I used to get a lot of brass, bullets, Encore barrels and Burris scopes on Flea bay. That policy cemented my determination to never use them again.0 -

Marketplaces
Overall, eBay's Marketplaces business posted strong results in the quarter, with solid top-line growth and expanded margins. The company continues to make significant investments to reinvigorate its core auctions business as well as to expand its portfolio of adjacent businesses. Marketplaces net revenues totaled a record $1.29 billion in Q2-07, a growth rate of 26% over the $1.03 billion reported in Q2-06. eBay's users posted a total of 559 million listings in Q2-07, 6% lower than the 596 million listings posted in Q2-06. These listings generated Gross Merchandise Volume(GMV) of $14.46 billion in Q2-07, representing a 12% year-over-year increase from the $12.90 billion reported in Q2-06.

PayPal had another exceptional quarter, with accelerating Total Payment Volume (TPV) and revenue growth. PayPal's Merchant Services business recorded outstanding results, as PayPal expanded its global footprint to new geographies and currencies during the quarter.
PayPal net revenues totaled a record $454 million in Q2-07, a growth rate of 34% over the $339 million reported in Q2-06. Global TPV was
$11.69 billion in Q2-07, a 32% increase from the $8.86 billion reported in Q2-06. PayPal Merchant Services contributed $4.92 billion globally to the $11.69 billion in global TPV in Q2-07, representing a 57% increase from the$3.13 billion reported in Q2-06." - from Q2-2007 sec filing.
Just some actual numbers. Unless you're eBay's CFO or CEO, I really doubt you have access to other numbers.
Everything else is a matter of perception and I neither agree nor disagree with it.0 -

What if it is a tumbler/keyholer?
Then it would be a bullet butt?0 -

Agree wholeheartedly.
My son recently heard a report about Wal Mart getting out of the ammo business in their urban locations, then they quoted some idiot saying that was a violation of his 2nd ammendment rights. That's the kind of person that makes us all look like lunatics. They can choose to sell or not sell whatever they want, for what ever reason they want. Those decisions by the WMs and eBays will just open up opportunities for others.0 -
MAN DOES E-BAY SUCK! I quess this will be the last lot of 338 LAPUA MAGNUM that I will be selling there, look for it in GB them.

I tried to sell an ar buttstock, they removed the listing and gave me a suspension warning. that was last year. 0 -
It's not that e-bay or wal-mart are anti-gun. They MIGHT be, but that is not the point. What they both are is "anti-getting sued!" With the way lawsuits fly around these days, not sure I would want to be a big retailer in the firearms business either. "OH MY! HE BOUGHT MAGAZINES ON ______ or from _______! LET'S SUE THEM TOO!" Unfortunately, that's the way it works anymore. 0 -
iluvguns, I don't think it's the issue anymore, might have been but I don't think it is now. I think more than anything it's publicity which somehow relates to stock price (in case of eBay I think it's complete BS). 0 -
That is United States for everybody, I sue you, you sue me, etc... Folks have let it come for this. Everywhere you go you have to sign all kinds of papers, because people are afraid of getting sued. Woman spills a cup of hot coffee on her muff, and gets millions, only in America. I love the country the best in the world, but what the hell is happening to it?? 0 -

How do you come to that conclusion exactly? I mean, are you implying that "listings are dropping" because they dropped one quarter? Do you know maybe something everybody else doesn't?
I just went through a number of SEC filings and things actually look pretty good as well as company's financial standing, and most of Wall Street analysts agree - out of 2 dozens of them only 1 has it in a sell position.
Well, moot point to go into it since I doubt you'll produce any factual data.0 -

I know you feel bad for working for E-Bay, we do understand, just take your time and find an other job. We do think about poor souls like you!!0 -
It's a private business, they can do whatever they want, and those who disagree can do their business elsewhere ...
Aside from being informative, this issue/thread is reading like a phishing expedition for something to complain about.0 -
The HE!! with EBAY, i think it is great, ebay has become a cesspool of lazy bums with nothing else to do but bid up their own stuff making nearly impossible for someone who likes to buy used stuff to save any money.
I have seen those idiots continue to bid on once fired 16ga shotgun hulls until they where nearly .20 a piece who the hell pays .20 a piece for a once fired hull?
Nobody, that has a lick of sense that is who!
I have also seen used reloading presses sell for more than a frigin NEW one.
glad to see that kinda stuff will be coming back to where it belongs GB.com maybe now we can save some money0
