Daughter-in-law is a dope.
My son called a few minutes ago to let me know "what happened" at the house. Seems while he and my younger son were out at the stables tending the horses and doing some riding, she was home cooking lunch for the kids.
She was in the kitchen getting fish sticks ready to bake when she turned and saw a man looking through the window at her. He was in their back yard with his face up against the kitchen window looking in.
When she turned to look at him, he ran. She went to the back door, opened it (without any kind of protection and a house full of children) and watched as he ran to the back gate and bolted through it.
She then locked (thank God) the doors and returned to the kitchen to finish cooking. She didn't call the police, my son, me or anyone else, she just waited for him to come home to see what he wanted to do about it.
This girl as a masters degree in business administration and is clueless. It never dawned on her to either have protection before she opened the door, or to lock the doors and call the police. It never dawned on her that if the guy was running, he was most likely up to no good. It never dawned on her to call someone who could come check things out. Unbelievable!
My son called the police and made a report. He and Josh are going to buy locks for the gates and do a recommended security check of the house. Most of the windows were unlocked and the policeman told him to get them locked up. They have a security system, but it hasn't been armed in a year or more.
How can someone not know to call the police?
I have to keep my mouth shut. She thinks I'm too critical of her like it is.[V]

Sad.
Yep, do you really think I'm not going to say "something" about this to the two of them? They have got to start thinking like protective parents before something bad happens.[}:)]0 -

Well thats not much of a surprise. Business administration doesn't require booksmarts or even common sense... just an ability and a desire to manipulate people. [;)]0 -

She does a good job of that on my son.[V]0 -
I agree 100%,.........it's just sad that you seem to have to take care of their business.
They are both adults!
I'm not gonna go on this time,......but I do feel bad for what you and your wife have to go through.[xx(]0 -
I don't think a lot of people realize what is happening to them in real time. Our brains act as a sort of buffer that tells us, "This is not normal," but it tells our bodied to react otherwise. Stuff like that happens that is so wierd that you react the way you would were the word a rational world. None of us can "for certain" say how we would react in any situation, or judge the reactions of others, until we have been there.
While certainly, the situation should have been handeled differently, the important part is she and the children were unhurt.0 -
Do they keep a shotugn in the house? 0 -
It may not be realistic to predict how an individual will react in a crisis without training and even then fear may overcome reason. 0 -
(At least no one was hurt)... And your son did call the police even though it was when he came into the house and found out a while later. Hopefully your son had a little talk with her and this is a lesson learned. She got off lucky this time around. They should get a dog for the yard. 0 -
I feel for you, Heff.

Rapists love victims that don't call the police. If that guy knows she she didn't call the police he may be encouraged and wait until everything cools down then return. 0 -
Seems to be a good opportunity to teach them something about how to handle it should something like that occur again. I know, hard to not come across like you're hammering her, but she needs to know better.
As for the MBA, I couldn't agree more. All that demonstrates is that you had enough money for more school. It certainly doesn't designate someone is able to make decisions about real world situations.0 -
I, too, have a dopey daughter-in-law, but don't get me started...!!![V][B)][:0][V] 0 -
It's probably best she stays away from firearms.........Is she a Blonde? 0 -

Don't make sexist comments. Broads hate that. [;)]0 -
If she likes to "manipulate", maybe she made the story up!?! Could be she was a bit jealous that he was spending time with his brother and not her!?![:0].....[?][;)] 0 -

There more fun when their mad!!!![:D]0 -
You know Danny, Dirtyrat may be on to something. Women sometimes do very strange things when they think they are being ignored. Especially if they think you are having fun while they are doing the drudge work. When I go down to my gun room, my wife thinks of a million reasons(none of them legitimate) why I should be upstairs helping her...and yells them down to me. I just pretend not to hear her until she comes down stairs to the gun room.....by then my hands and arms are soaked with whatever convenient gun cleaner or rust inhibiter I can find. The rose and flower like smell of my gun oil drives her screaming from my sanctuary[^]. Beach 0
