If no black panthers in Central Ga then what is it
Could it be that the government is putting these "cats" (what ever kind they are) here to cut down on the deer population for insurance purposes. My wife killed her first deer six years ago. It was in the afternoon and time to get down. She saw two deer about 250 yards out and got VERY excited. I said shoot if you think you got a good shot. We found nothing. The next morning while leaving the field I noticed drag marks. We followed them to a doe. My wife had shot the back legs off the deer in front of the one she was shooting at. I wanted to train my bulldog to track so we went home, got him, and came back 30 mins later. The deer was gone. The dog started barking about twenty feet from where the deer was a few mins earlier. Something had moved the deer ate it's internal organ(looked like only the liver was missing) and buried it under pinestraw so that you couldn't even see it. If not a panther(or large cat) then what did this. A few years later my sister-in-law raised a fawn that's mother got ran over. After about 8 months someone called the game warden and we had to let it go. She put it in a big pen at her uncles to wait for deer season to end. She feed it for two days. The third day it was dead, liver gone, and lightly buried under grass and straw. There was a 4 foot fence and electic fence around pen(it was used for goats). What would do this. Georgia 45 miles south of Macon is where all this took place.

They get hit on the T-Pike all the time down here. BIG ones too. I never seen a black one. These all look like light buck-skin, with black on their faces.Not the entire face.Look like Cougars to me .

Bears are the most likely to cover a food cache, but it is likely there are indeed cougars in the area. Melanistic (black) animals are very rare indeed, but somehow figure in the animal mythology of many places where they have never been recorded. A large black cat has been seen several times over the years by security guards on the grounds of the St. Louis zoo, and one even took a shot at it. this occured during times when there was no melanistic leopard or jaguar in the collection, much less out of its enclosure. 0 -

I lived in central Georgia, 30 miles east of Macon, for 20 years.
Did quite a bit of deer and hog hunting, and just messing around in the woods.
I never heard of any big cats around there. Of course there were lots of bobcats, but I can't see a bobcat dragging an adult deer.
I left there 13 years ago, maybe some cats have moved in since.0 -
I have only heard of them around here in the last 8 years or so. I only believed they were down here when all this took place and my father-in-law and sister-in-law saw two in the road in front of them, and I heard one "scream". It sounded like a banchi(spelled wrong I'm sure).

For years, at least 40, the KY Dept of F&W have denied that there were panthers or bears in KY. Well now we are seeing a LOT more bears and several panthers in all areas of KY. I have a farm across from a KY F&W public Wildlife management Area (WMA) and they have taken pictures of bears on it as well as surrounding farms including mine. Well we have also seen a black panther cat, tghe local F&W officer said he had heard of them but hadd not seen any himself. Panthers are making a slow but steady migration back yet as a kid I remeber seeing a black panther cross the road in front of our auto at night. Bottom line it could be a bear or yes it could be a panther, black or brown. They both are making a good healthy come back to the eastern US IMHO. 0 -
Live in the area ya,ll are talking about since the end of ww-2.Ive never seen a black panther here.Sounds like a bear to me.If any of ya ever heard a bobcat scream it,ll make ya shiver,does me anyway.Thanks,Paul 0 -
I've heard a bodcat scream and that is not what I heard when I was deer hunting. How many bears eat the liver out of something and bury it. I have seen bears down here and a relative of mine ran over one close to where I hunt. I know it was a black bear because I went and drug(country talk) it out of the woods. Bobcats aren't big enough to move a whole deer. Coyotes would have eaten it right there, and I haven't seen any of those around for years. It's like the coyotes left and the bears and cats came in.

I personally saw a black panther, here in south Alabama over 20 yrs ago now. Big one; I stopped on the highway and backed off, he was on the other side of the road on the shoulder. Looked at me for a minute, then unhurriedly moved off into the woods. Game warden said I did not see it because `there used to be brown ones here, never have been any black ones.` OK, so I lied~ 0 -
