Pizza delivery man with carry permit kills robber
A pizza delivery man with a concealed weapons permit shot and killed a man who was attempting to rob him. The robber had a wrench and was beating the pizza delivery man with it when he was fatally shot.

I worked pizza delivery in a large city back in my teens. I always carried my S&W 59, but avoided or got out of every jam by using only my brain.
Thankfully I never even had to display it since this was before CHL's existed there.0 -

The deliveryman, 49, was taken in custody along with the second robbery suspect, whom Flint police identified as Eddie G. Jackson.
Michigan is one of the worst places to use deadly force to defend yourself; they are just not very "pro-self-defense" in that state.
Even in your own home you have to try to "flee" before you are justified in using deadly force. (At least that was the law when I lived there 15 years ago. Maybe it has been changed to something more reasonable now?)
If the local prosecutor in the jurisdiction is "anti-gun," expect to see this deliveryman charged with manslaughter and have to deal with a nightmare of malicious prosecution. He had to deal with slime bag criminals on the street; he now may end up dealing with the slime bag criminals in the government.0 -

How come our brave and noble cops weren't on scene? I mean after all they can do no wrong, at least on GB forum.
How come they weren't there to prevent this? They are HEROS just for showing up for work, right? Just ask SAXONPIG...he LOVE'S cops...he hates free speech but he loves cops....0 -

No charges were filed and he(deliveryman) was released. This is the second time this guy was assaulted and shot someone. In 2000 he was delivering pizzas, was assaulted and shot his assailant, but not fatally. He had a Concealed Weapons Permit both times.

A "Stand Your Ground" law was passed in Michigan last year, so the laws have been changed. Like another poster mentioned, no charges were filed against the delivery guy.0 -

Delivering pizzas in Flint, I'm surprised that he's only had TWO occasions where he's had to shoot someone. The downtown is fine, but the neighborhoods are scary. Flint and Sagniaw are like mini-Detroits. I know in Detroit, there have been more than a few pizza delivery men killed in robberies and plenty more have been robbed. It's the perfect way to get a victim, you call and order a pizza and they come to YOU and you know exactly where and when they are going to show up and you know they are carrying cash.0 -

The pizza places wont even deliver to the worst parts of town. If they did this guy would probably have to shoot someone once a month. I felt alot better going to school there after I got my CCW. That place is a zoo.0 -
I suspect that just about anywhere you have to use a gun to defend yourself, on a public street, that you will be "taken into custody". If you think the Po-po is just going to let you holster up and stroll away before they find out what really happened, you've got a lot to learn.
It just comes with the territory. It really doesn't happen like you see in the movies, where you shoot someone and 15 minutes later, you are eating a hot dog on a new york city street while talking with your buddy.
Even if it were justified (and I have no doubt it was) the fact that someone is laying there "bled out" means you will have to answer some questions. Better back at the PD than out on the street where the suspects' gang-banger friends can take pot shots at you. While you are being transported there, use the time to look up your attorneys number and have him "meet you at the station".
Flint can be a very dangerous place. Places in Flint are very much like places in Detroit. I live less than an hour away from there. I know a little about living in the city. I grew up in Detroit and was even a pizza delivery man there, so it doesn't surprise me that the guy has twice had to defend himself with a gun. I later worked in LE in the Detroit area before moving a couple hours north of there. Life in the "big city" is much different from what a lot of people have experienced growing up in "small town USA". But even in "small town USA", if you shoot someone, you should expect to be "taken into custody" for a few hours after you "cap" somebody.
Heck, the guy is lucky in that sense-if you shoot someone as a LE officer, you better expect to spend DAYS filling out paperwork and answering questions. I was present at a police shooting a few years back and the detectives were still interviewing cops about 10 days later. This was after 3 cops shot a suspect-after he killed one girl, shot another 3 times and was holding her at gunpoint on the front lawn.0 -
