Internet phone service
Does anyone use an Internet-based phone service, like Vonage or others? Who do you use? What do you pay? Do you like them?

Ya know, Those danged things go out whenever a storm comes through or anything, they loose signal alot just like cellphones would, So if you loose signal, your messed. 0 -
I have Vonage.A 1-800# so it dont cost any thing to call me .
Only 21.00 a month.Never had a problem with ith it yet.0 -
Had Vonage about 6 months-never an issue. Pay like 32 with tax and everything. I haven't a single in state relative either. 0 -
Vonage for over a year now. Love it. No problems. $25/mo for unlimited minutes, free long distance, caller ID, check your voicemail from anywhere, You can use any phone, we have an answering machine and if we're on the phone(we have call waiting), but let it ring 4 times and your internet voice mail will pick it up. 0 -

We have the same service and love it too. It does go down sometimes when there is bad weather. But for the cost advantage, free long distance less taxes on the regular bill, its well worth it.0 -
The only thing I don't like about Comcast's VOIP (Voice Over Internet Provider) is that if I dial 911, I may get someone in Miami FL, who would have to transfer me to my local 911 directory. When I first bought into the service, the sales person said that what I was buying was "Enhanced" 911. Come to find out, that "enhanced" service is the gurantee that I would be immediately transferred to a local 911 directory---I didn't know I would have to tell whomever answered I need my local directory.
Other'n that, it works fine. I do occasionally get some weird sounds, and one time I tried to call my sister in Kalifornia, and somehow got into some 911 directory in Texas. I sat and listened for a while, and it was kinda neat to hear unedited 911 calls.0 -

While Comcast isn't an option (we're dropping Comcast cable, as a matter of fact, and getting DirectTV instead), this is interesting.
Do others get strange phone calls?
I'm asking this because we're dumping Qwest. They've lied to me for the last time, and I'm yanking all my services that go through them.0 -
From Embarq I get: no extra charge long distance, all the local stuff - caller id, etc. - and DSL for $49.95/month. I have two TVs with Direct TV and Digital Video Recorders on each (fake TiVo) for the same - $49.95.
Heavy rainstorms or snowstorms take the satellite TV out. I suspect that would happen with VoIp, also.
I'm happy with what I have for $100/month. I do a LOT of long distance calling.

Thought about Vonage; but, our home security system requires a regular telephone land line and I do not want to eliminate our security system. 0 -
Got Vonage early and pay <$20/mo total and free long distance. Have had to reboot modem twice over last 18-24 months. 0
