dropped tranny
Here it is a few weeks into Rabbit Season and the transmission dies in my Huttin Yacht[:(].Hope i can find a good used 700r4 quickly.1st gear still works so i can still Hunt close to home.The tranny never did work right since i bought the truck a year ago,so i figured i would drive it till it would'nt move.It's gettin close...

I think the 700r4 and the turbo 350 interchange fairly easily - you can pick those up for a few hundred. 700r4 will be a lot more. Doubt you really need the overdrive. 0 -

This truck is an 85 K-10 4wd,so i assume its a 700r4.Its pretty much dead, the fluids like mud.Ill see if i can find one of the older model trannys.Much appreciated,Cahas 0 -

If it has overdrive ("D" with a circle around it), it is probably a 700r4, if not, a 350. 0 -
This is the reason I switched to a manual tranny. I replaced five TH350 in less than a year, never again. brothers car is currently down due to a 700r4/4l60. I told him the tranny sucks!! GM quit using the TH 350 (in 1/2 tons only, 3/4 and 1 tons still used TH400's up till 91 I think) I believe in '82, replaced it with 700r4 after. 700r4/4l60 are the biggest pieces of junk GM ever put in a vehicle!!! 0 -
Umm...nothing interchanges between any of the transmissions mentioned.
TH350 - to install one in your vehicle...you would need a 4x4 version of this tranny (special - needs to be built - output shaft is different - which is the SECOND piece installed when building the trans). Different mounting plate, different kickdown (your 700R4 has a TV cable..close..but not the same as a kickdown)
TH400 - would be a good move for you...but it will be spendy. Same thing as the TH350 - different output shaft and mounting plate. NO kickdown cable...but...now you will need a kickdown SWITCH and wiring for such.
700R4 - can easily be built to withstand whatever you throw at it. But, you will have to spend some money ...in the 1800-2000 area.
TH350 could handle whatever you need as well..but...have to spend the money on it - 1000.
TH400 - spend a little money on upgrades...$25...but good luck finding one.0 -

may have to change the driveshaft linkage should work you will be in low gear where the indicator shows 2nd
oh btw the 700r4 is a piece of crap0 -
You are going to need a transfer case that matches whatever tranny you wind up using.The transfer case will also need to have the same ratio as your present one.I assume you have a married unit.
