Last Night... LEO's some insight?
So I get home this morning from working all night, and my wife tells me somebody was outside the house last night. She was lying on the bed watching the last part of the Fiesta Bowl game, and all of a sudden somebody knoxs on the bedroom window. She told me the first time she heard it, she wasn't sure if she really had heard it. Then they do it "again". At that point, she turned off the T.V. and made some noise so as to let them know someone was home.
The local news had metioned that with all the people that were going to the game in Phoenix, that it would be a good time for undisirables to try and take advantage. They suggested that you leave some lights and maybe a T.V. on if you were going to be out of town. Maybe that's why they knocked, to see if they would get a reaction / see if anybody was home. The window they were at is the least visible from neighbors or the street. If I was wanting in, that's where I'd go.
Now maybe I'm wrong in my thinking, but it really made me mad. First off I was upset to think that someone might try to come in my house. Not saying I'm anybody specieal, just the whole violation thing. Second, I was mad that she didn't call the police. She told me she just kinda layed there not moving, listening to hear if they might be going to a different part of the house.
My wife is a cowgirl from Montana, she's tough but she has become "citifed" the last few yrs. She was in the Army, and has been a hunter her whole life so she knows how to handle a gun. I told her that if this ever happens again, that I wanted her to get my .32 or .38 and the phone, lock the bedroom door, and head for the bathroom locking that door also all while dialing 911.
Can anybody tell me anything else that I should tell her to do? Am I overreacting?
BTW, I told her to make sure she put the gun away before she anwered the door when the cops got there.

A few years ago, my mother, who is elderly and lives alone, had a man beating on her door at about 1:00 am. She said nothing, did nothing. I gently chewed her out.
I told her she should have first called police, then gone to the door, gun and phone in hand, and ask LOUDLY, who is there. Then, announce to the person that she is armed and the police are on their way. An honest man up to no harm would have nothing to fear from an armed grandmother or the police.
It was probably a drunk who was at the wrong address, since most of the houses in her neighborhood look alike, but you never know. My point in addressing the person is to make sure he knows someone is home. Some burglars will knock, and if they get no response, break in.0 -
Good advice - I'd make sure the .38's handy - but I'd make sure she took them both if she could. Never can have too much insurance.[:D] 0 -
I would add to call you AFTER she calls 911. Don't leave any weapons where an intruder can turn them against you. 0 -
Boot that girl square in her behind and tell her to remember her Montana roots. Arm herself and lay a trap for that sob. Fix his wagon when he comes through the window. 0
