springfeild armory?

Are the sringfeild armory 1911's a decent carry gun?

I need a carry gun I sold all of my hand guns a few years ago and really wish I had not Espeacialy a gold cup that I had

I also want a Browning Hi-power in .40 s&w [:)]

    i have a 1911A1 for about 28 years now wit no trouble , but the Springfield i carry sometimes is the XD45 IT ALSO IS A GREAT GUN with a lot more fire power

    If you only carry that type of handgun. I have always worried that it would conflict with other guns I carry?_?not in style(matching grips to slides and so on)?_?but in operation. Muscle memory conflict at a bad time would be tragic.

    i have thought about that also my 1911 is the only older style i have 2 others are similar XD PT145

    I only carry pistols with John Browning's operating system.

    I only carry on the weak side, cross draw.

    I had one of the new Springfield 1911's about 3 years ago. It had fixed sights and shot about 9 inches left at 15 yards. I quickly sold it and bought a beretta M9. Much happier with this gun.

    i personally carry a Springfield armory compact( officers Frame, 4 " Barrel) Light Weight 1911. great gun utterly reliable. it is a shame they no longer make it.

    i have heard tell that they are putting out a piece with the same dimensions but i do not know if it will have the lightweight frame

    i have had 2 SA and they were jam o matics. have a colt 1991 and is very reliable.

    I have to be honest here...SA does the gamut, from low end to high end and everything in between!

    I have had a Springfield standard 1911-A1 since the late 80's. Carried it on duty for a few years and have fired thousands of rounds through it. No mechanical problems and reliable as hell.

    I have had a Springfield Ultra-Compact 1911, SS, "custom loaded" model for about 5 years. Utterly reliable and it is my duty gun when I wear a uniform.

    Now that I am in plain clothes, I find that the Ultra-Compact Springfield is a bit heavy for a belt holster when wearing slacks. I've switched to one of my Kimbers, the Ultra Carry II. Much lighter and more comfortable to wear.

    Yes! SA 1911s are decent carry guns. I carried one for several years and switched over to my Rock Island 1911 cause I didn't want to ruin the finish of my SA anymore than I already had. I had a SA 1911 Mil-spec and like some have mentioned it was a jam-o-matic, but with some light polish work to the feed ramp and an aftermarket recoil spring it was as reliable as you could get.

    1911s make GREAT carry guns in my opinion. That is if you are comfortable and familiar with them. There are so many different guns out there that are good carry pieces that it's not even funny, so if you are going to get one make sure you are happy with it whatever it is!

    I say yes 99% I love all of mine, the 1911's do take a couple hundred rounds to break in. I think some people may judge them before they have the chance to work smoothly. The FBI Hostage Rescue Team carry the Springfield 1911. HTH

    I had a SA 1911 Govt with a few factory mods like beavertail, lowered port, tritium sights match trigger,,, couldn't hit s*^% with it. I bought a SA XD 40, also couldnt hit anything with it. I sold it and bought a Kimber Pro Carry 2, excellent accurate dependable, love it. $700
