Haven't heard anything about this until now but it is definitely interesting and worthy of some research.

Who cares if it's true or false? Within 72 hours of commencement of hostilities, I doubt if Iran would have a naval presence in the Gulf of any type.

Nur Ali Shushkari, the head of the Revolutionary Guards ground forces, told Iranian pro-government news agencies that the symbol was etched onto the ship by the crew of a submarine that had managed to reach the U.S. vessel without detection by radar.

Someone needs to tell Ahkmed that subs are detected via sonar, not radar....unless the "sub" is running on the surface

This is the funniest thing I've read all day. Thanks Hairy, I needed the laugh

Iraq was a "cakewalk". We took the country so quickly it was a joke. Same with the liberation of Kauait, do you remember?

To occupy a country is a different story. If you remember your History its took many years to change the culture of Japan same with Germany, We are still in both places.

To change the culture of Iraq and Afgan we will have to be there for a long time. It isn't a short term fix, nothing worthwhile is.

But then you aren't interested in a conservative solution, you prefer to work hard to turn this into a viet nam type "cut and run" liberal solution and then refuse to take the blame for making it a failure.

Sorry, I am not a subscriber to Pax Americana nor do I contribute to AIPAC. The "conservative" group is the one that got our country into this mess, not any liberal policies. BTW, the 'Nam cut-n-run was carried out by a Republican, remember? His name was Richard Nixon.

You bash Bush for not listening to the American people when they demand that we leave Iraq, yet when 80% of the country thought we should leave Vietnam you bash Nixon for doing so ? I think it was the democrat Kennedy and the democrat Johnson that got us into Vietnam and it was a republican who fixed the situation.

Where am I bashing Nixon? I am stating history.

I'm not sure but I believe it might have been Eisenhower (he was a Republican, BTW) who initiated the support for the French 'Nam.

You can check, using "Google" if you wish. And, if I'm right, you are therefore wrong on your entire statement.

Hairy! I disagree! Nixon may have been the "wussy lawyer" that caved to the "liberal" pressure. But, it was the same liberal media pressure that got all the kids on the Universities jumpin and shoutin, End the War!

I give all the credit of the Viet Nam failure to the Liberals that were behind the organization of the protests. They pulled it off without being accountable. I was there, I saw it all and know the truth![:0][:0][:0]

JamesRK: A ship built with the intention of being used by a nation for purposes of war?

HAIRY, that's a pretty wide definition. Every watercraft the U. S. Navy owns is "built with the intention of being used by a nation for purposes of war". Which one do they claim to have done their artwork on? If it was a yards and docks utility craft, then I wouldn't doubt it.

Hairy- I don't think it was Nixon who removed U.S. forces from Vietnam. I believe it was the Democrat-controlled Congress that cut funding for the war that caused the pull-out. The current Democrat-controlled Congress is setting the stage to do the very same thing in a few weeks on Iraq.

BTW- The "cakewalk" was in destroying the Iraq Army, which is what happened. The problem has been in contending with terrorist tactics when nobody has the will to do what it would take to win, like blow up mosques when they are used for hiding places and burn down civilian areas when enemy troops are lurking there.

Once thw war stops being military and starts being political we lose.

As for the original question regarding the commando operation, I doubt it happened as stated. If they claimed a wooden rowboat crept up to the ship I might believe it, but even a small sub would be detected.

And if they got that close they wouldn't stop at writing graffiti on the hull, they would have slapped a bomb on it.

Still learning how to read English? Most humans begin at the introduction of a sentence. Now, be a good Lowrider and try reading the first part of that sentence. And then, after reading it, try to comprehend it. Duh

Hairy, stick to facts or opinions and resist the urge to be personally insulting.

Please do a search and you'll find it was Nixon who removed the troops from 'Nam. quote:

Still stuck on your tired old "snappy comeback," huh Hairy? It wasn't funny the first time and it's damn sure not funny the 200th time. What IS funny is your habit of calling names like a 3rd-grader rather than addressing other people's points. You do it with everybody and evidently have no idea how silly and ignorant it makes you look.

Joint Chiefs, huh? [:D] I wouldn't be a bit surprised to discover you were kicked out of the service during basic training for bed-wetting.

Tell us more war stories, hero. We just can't get enough.

As C-in-C it was Nixon who negotiated with the NV (and they promised to not invade but seek talks with the So, a promise they immediately broke, remember?) and ultimately he ordered the withdrawal but I think it was because the Congress either cut funding or promised that they would do it if he didn't find an excuse to get the troops out.

If I'm wrong then so are talking heads on CNN and Fox News because I heard people on both say this recently as they discussed the likelihood of it happening again. After the vote yesterday to disapprove of additional troops being sent to Iraq at least one Congressman was crowing about how this sets the stage for a vote to cut funding.

Whether it was Congress or Nixon I think public support for the VN War was so low by that point it pointless to try to go on. The current situation is very nearly at the same point. The folks who oppose any war are unhappy. The folks who oppose this war are unhappy. The folks who oppose any war run badly are unhappy.

Some wars are more political than others. When the objective switches from victory to political posturing it becomes, IMO, a political war. This one ranks right up at the top. We are far more concerned about what CNN thinks than we are with winning.

So tell me, most in service protestors got a BCD or dishonorable discharge; how did you manage to get an honorable?

Since the war in Iraq is based on Bush's lies, and since there has never been a definite and credible statement of what "winning" is, he can, like Nixon, declare victory and get our troops out of harms's way. Then he can, again, declare "Mission Accomplished".
