My little sister married one of her high school teachers when she was a freshman in college.

The seduction surely started when she was in his classes. He could not be "fired" but the school system made him not want to stay. He got a job as a Jr High principal in the city where she attended college.

My lady [at that time] predicted that when he stopped viewing my sister as a little girl the relationship would be over. Sure enough, when she turned 30 he asked her for a divorce.

He is now a superintendant of schools in another county. At least in that position he rarely has direct contact with students.

I read that article this morning. Sad. Band Director at our high school was arrested Monday for having sex with a 16 year old. He can only be charged with a misdemenor (sp?) because the "age of consent" in KY is 16. Sad thing is school board said they had been aware of an "improper relationship" since March! But at least they, in their words, had asked him to stop seeing her. [xx(] IMHO...ALL the adminstrators in our school system who were aware it was going on since March should be tarred and feathered, or at least fired.

When I was in high school one of the male teachers was attracted to young male students. Was common knowledge and nothing was done. During a PTA meeting, a father of one of the students stood up and informed this teacher, in front of a lot of folks, that if he laid a hand on his son, he was going to castrate him. Also asked if he understood what he said and if he had any questions. There were none and that teacher never came back to that school.

maybe this is why the schools are handing out birth control. the teachers just want to make sure the students they are boning wont get pregnant.

Well, if any kids get knocked up, I would give them an "F" in sexual misconduct. Any that don't should get at least a "C"

everybody acts like this is something new,I have said it in here before, way back in the 70's when I was in high school I had a thing with my 20 something year old french teacher,it was not uncommon in the 70's,,,even if you watch a bunch of the teen movies from that time period you will see it very often in the movies, teen girls going with teachers or even cops,,I am not saying it is right,,just that its been going on forever

sharpshooter...that's what the article is saying! They talked about that one guy who had taught for 40 years after admitting to touching a young girls breasts! Whether or not it is a new thing or not, it is wrong. It was wrong then, and it's wrong now.

Right off the bat, I think of two things. First, this story sounds rather sensationalized, and Newsweek and Time and the AP are always coming up with some sort of "Everybody is trying to rape, kill, poison, abduct your kids" story. Second, if the numbers are valid, it's horrifying and wrong.

In the middle school I attended, there was a shop teacher who turned out to be a pedophile. Very nice fellow and in a way, the kind of teacher you hope your child has: gentle, stayed after school to work with kids, nurturing, etc. Well, he takes on of my brother's friends fishing and tried to molest him. Unreal. He was immediately fired and prosecuted.

In the high school I attended, one of the coaches got caught having sex with a senior. He was about 25 and a smug jackass, and she was a very good looking senior. Turns out she was pregnant and her father told the coach that he could marry her or face charges. He married her. I am 100% sure I would not want such a person as a son-in-law, but there it is. There was a persistant rumor that he'd been caught in a sexual relationship with a student at a previous school, and had worked out a deal where if he left quietly, no charges would be filed. Keep in mind that often in these cases such a deal is desired and advocated by the involved student's parents; they want to minimize the fallout for their daughter and preserve her good reputation. Also, and this should be said, there are often some consenual elements to the relationship. I know that in general if there is a custodial relationship the minor--even at 18--is incapable of consenting, but what I'm saying is that often the male teacher and the female student are willingly in bed. The parents don't want all that getting out, so they often press the school system to get rid of the teacher quietly, and the teacher's lawyer knows how this works and so the lawyer often works out a neutral recommendation agreement.

Also in high school there were always rumors that the female Spanish teacher was trying to get it on with a guy on the football team. Funny thing is, years later I'm doing volunteer work for the county and I end up helping a guy who married this woman and is now getting divorced because she was unfaithful.

In the schools I have taught in, I know of one case of a teacher being dismissed for something that sure didn't seem right, although I think it was over dealing drugs. Regardless, he was a very young guy and would always have a too familiar, unprofessional, whatever you want to call it relationship with the female students. He would joke with them to the point where it seemed like flirting, and would even hug them occasionally. He taught 8th grade girls.

I should also point out that in the county we had a bunch of middle school girls make accusations against a tough PE teacher. He was a no-nonsense guy, and they said he'd tried to kiss them, had touched them, and on and on. Of course it's all over the papers, and not two days later one of the girls admits that it was all made up because he kept sending them to detention for tardies and being rude and so forth. He won a civil judgment against them, but it ended his teaching career.

As I say, though, if even one case is true it's horrifying and needs to be stopped. I don't see why people don't behave better and treat children better. As a teacher, this story turns my stomach.
