I had to have my Samsung Cell phone replaced and upon talking to various people learned that if your service is Verizon and you need another phone you have to buy it from Verizon becaused it has to be programmed to operate on the Verizon system. Also you cannot buy it at the service stations seen in all the malls. You have to go to a Verizon Store or the internet.

My question is why would anyone buy a phone on E-Bay since they have to be programmed to match your service?

If you do not believe me check with you cell phone provider.

A Nextel Cell phone purchased as part of a Nextel plan will not work with a Verizon plan.

If you have damaged your phone and didn't buy the insurance they're a cheap way to get connected again . Swap SIM card and "Hello Irene" .

I've bought and sold phones for parts like it's nice to have a spare battery or charger .

That's about the only reason I can think of .

You can buy "open" cell phones that have not been programmed for any specific carrier. All you have to do is pop your SIM card in and you're good to go. I have bought 2 off e-bay like that. No problems.

My grandaughter is on my cell plan. After one canoe trip and another quick loss, I just bought a phone off e-bay. It was a new unlocked Nokia and I just took it to Cingular and they put in a new SIM card, no charge. It works well. $70.00 with shipping.

Cingulars cheapest without extending my service plan was $149.00. The girl at Cingular suggested I just by a T-mobile, use up their card, then installing a new SIM card.

I am pretty sure that verizon does not do the sim cards like cingular/at &t this. The whole swaping of sim cards has saved my ass big money 2 times now.

I bought one off Ebay when my kid lost his. You have to get a compatable phone for the system you use, that's all. Saved me a $100.

now, what's that got to do with eBay? both the lack of technical knowledge and the whole cell phone rant?

My wife needed a new charger for her phone. It was cheaper for me to buy a (used) phone, charger, and car charger package off ebay than to buy a new charger.
