IF he was so mentally deranged, how was he still enrolled at the University? Has any news media got ahold of his transcripts?

    With the current laws, I don't know what anybody can possibly do. There are A LOT of strange people out there, with only a very small percentage that would be capable of doing this. People do have a right to be strange, and the ACLU protects them. They make sure that the craziest of the crazies remain on the streets so their rights are not impacted. Mental health records can't be disclosed to anybody. It's private info.

    Even if they had to do it again, there's nothing they could do to him in advance. The only option would be to eliminate the first ammendment and come up with a new set of laws so 'strange kids' aren't allowed to do anything like he did so they can be jailed. I don't think anybody is begging for that either.

    The only answer is concealed carry, IMO. Honestly. Let them be strange. If they decide to kill, be sure SOMEBODY THERE, ON THE SCENE, is capable of eliminating the threat. No other answer.

    I deal with fuctioning mentally ill clients on a daily basis. Some are better off than others, but mentally ill never the less.

    You guys are missing the boat.. He was 23 years old. What are his past transcripts ( grades in school )? If he were stupid the University would have kicked him out..

    It has been reported that Virginia Tech policy does permit expulsion of any student who is deemed a threat to harm himself, another student, or faculty member. A female student had reported that he was stalking her, but, declined to press charges. An instructer had him banned from her class. Perhaps it will be determined that a university official missed an opportunity to have him expelled.

    He must have been able to keep above a 2.0 grade point and stayed off of educational probation or he would have been gone. It would be interesting to see his actual transcripts. Give the media time, they will get it sooner or later.
