  I ask... it was an early 2nd generation gun. Wrong box. Should have been a black box. Oh well..

  Not doubting you as I know nothing about Colts. But I've known the original owner all my life and known of the gun for 20 years or so and this box has always been with it. I'm 99% sure he bought the gun new in this box. Is it manufature date near the change over in boxes? Or could it have been a late shipped gun?

  Unless the serial number is on the box, your serial number indicates early 2nd generation 0001SA - 39,000SA which would be a black box Manufactured from 1956-1965
  
  serial range 39,000SA -70,055SA was stagecoach box you had. Mid range 2nd generation. 1965-1973
  
  Late 2nd generation 70,055SA -73,205SA was in a brown wood grain box 1973-76
  
  Buyer still got a deal on the gun.

  Did I leave out a number when I emailed you the sn? Gun is a 54,000SA ramge gun.
