Lost my favorite old knife
I am heart broken.
For almost 37 years I have used the same old Buck 110 folding knife to hunt with. I only used it for gutting deer, and it was kind of a good luck charm for me. I had managed to keep track of it for all these years. About ten years ago I left it stuck in a tree down state after gutting a deer. I went back the next season and there it was as good as new. The new ones are not the same. They will not hold an edge like my old 110 did. You could shave with this knife. I still have the case, but the knife is gone. I know it was placed in the kitchen sink to be washed, and some how it never came back to me. My wife would always wash it and give it back to me, but somewhere along the way I must have disengaged my mind from keeping track of it. I have been looking around the internet, but most knife makers don't even list their prices. I could go to the local hardware store, or Gander Mountain, but I don't want to buy a piece of junk. I think it ran off with my deer drag.[|)]
Anyone have any good ideas for a replacement?

Man, I feel your pain! I had the same knife, and broke the point off it about 6 years ago. As far as a new knife, I like this one: http://www.gerbergear.com/product.php?model=8446
It's what I use now, after I figured out that a 3-inch blade was all I needed to gut out a deer. Takes a great edge and keeps it.0 -
That hurts. A good friend gave me mine in 1969. I cherish it for two reasons, it was a gift and it's been one hell of a fine knife. If it were not a gift I'd send it to you, I'm more or less done with it.

I have an idea. Shoot me an E-mail with your mailing address and I will send you my Buck 110 folder. I've had it for probably 25 years and no longer carry/use it. Although my father gave it to me as a gift, I'm confident that he would approve of my passing it along to someone that will use it and appreciate it (versus sitting in my drawer until I'm gone too). If you ever come across yours, you can pass this one down to someone else. What do ya think about that? [^]

How about a Ka-Bar 1189 lockback? I think it's basically the same knife as the Buck 110. It's 5" long closed and almost 9" long open. Ka-Bar doesn't make them any more but I think I have one new in the box with sheath.

Yeah. go to ebay and search for the same style and vintage Buck as the one you lost. You will find one and will get it pretty reasonable.
I just did a search for "Buck 110" and there are 167 listed currently as auctions and 215 listed if you use the same search and click "buy it now". Go and see if anything suits you.0 -
Why won't the new ones hold as good an edge? If you're thining they are made in China, I think the Buck folding hunters are still made in the U.S.
But you might try checking Ebay or the pawnshops for an older one.0 -

They are still made in the US, but Buck changed the type of steele they used in their knives back in the early 80's.

Good point. My Buck wasn't the perfect knife, but it had a lot of sentimental value. I gutted my first deer with it, and many more after that. I have had other knives, but it kept a nice edge and I always seemed to fall back to it.

I work at Gander Mountain (as a gumsmith) and just picked up a Kershaw locking folder. Really a good knife and holds an edge better than mo Puma's and older Bucks.

i lost my cold steel voyager once, i thought i lost it at the theater, but i found it almost a year later when i through out my old recliner, even though i checked it a dozen times it wedged itself in there real good, i always cut the bottoms out of couched and chairs to get all the goodies out when i throw them away, and there it was, i still take a flash light to the movies and check my seat when i get up
{btw salvation army, good will all cut out the bottom felt for the same reason}0 -
