    Well, since this time of the year they are usually airborne, the Federal Migratory Bird statutes come into play, and you are restricted to shotguns, no larger than 10 ga, max of 3 shells. I find that 12 g #1 buck works well, but ya hafta lead them a bit......[:p] PS- no hunting over bait- cookies and milk.

    It's more about shot placement than caliber. But any .30 cal or larger should be fine. [;)]

    The smallest caliber allowed for reindeer here in Greenland, is .222Rem.

    A .22Hornet does just fine though, and a few hunters use .22Mag
    I had a licence for 5 reindeer this summer, but never got the time to go - but I hope I will next year. [:)]

    Reindeer is good eating. =o)

    I also hope to go musk-ox hunting up north next summer.

    For it's long range (high altitude) capabilities, I would select the .416 Barrett...just make sure you lead them enough not to accidentally hit Santa.[;)]

    If your sights are on Rudolf in the front, then you should hit either Donner or Blitzen slightly further back.
    There's a few more reindeer between Donner and Blitzen, and down to santa.

    Problem is -- bag one of his reindeer, the dead weight might prove too much for the remaining seven (or eight, Rudolph fans) to carry, and bring the whole shebang to ground in a hurry.

    Assuming infinite possibilities, I'd opt for a brace of Spandaus on a Fokker DR-1 triplane, none of this ground-to-air nonsense. In the event more speed and manueverability was called for, a P-51 Mustang. Six (or was it eight?) .50 cals ought to get the job done.

    We are horrible, horrible people, but I for one will appreciate the coal in my stocking -- I can burn it to keep heating costs down.

    Some years back, at the tail end of an unsuccessful deer season, I visited the Cincinnati zoo. Reindeer were on display in a "petting" situation just outside the main gate. I showed the nearest critter my as-yet-unfilled deer tag and said, "These zookeepers turn their backs for just one minute -- you're mine." I was politely asked to either go inside the zoo or leave the premises. No sense of humor. Didn't the fools realize that a whitetail deer tag wouldn't apply to reindeer?

    On the ground I would want to hit them with a rifle that has a rapid rate of fire, after all you don't want any to get away. So I'm thinking a Barrett 82A1 would be perfect. But if they are airborn I think a P-38 would make quick work of them.
