Got tagged today bout 32 times best i can see with mirror while out cuttin back field and stopped for a pitstop and walked in woods.I knowed i was in trouble when my lil buddy oscar#2 ran past me!She didnt get hit at all but all mine lets just say are from my belt line down!Guess you all can figgure out i cant run like i could 50 years ago,sure thought i could!Had to drive tractor home standin up today and mabee for the next couple days,Sure looked like oscar was laughin at me all the way home!Thanks,Paul

They are vicious. You never get stung by just one. When that first one hits you, a dozen more are getting ready to sting.
One cup of gasoline down the nest hole will straighten them out.0 -
When the first one stings, she also sprays you with a pheromone that says to other yellow jackets, "this is the enemy, sting here!" You get stung, you want to get some distance as quickly as possible. I knew a fellow who died from wasp stings, it is no joke. 0 -

I was gonna say, what I found they can't stand the most is... Air Freshener! (I don't like it either) but he didnt' say anything about going back and messing with the nest. 0 -
Yeah. They hurt. Sometimes they don't hurt as much as they make you hurt yourself getting away from them. I remember my Daddy running under an extension ladder sticking out of the back of his truck and getting hit in the head with it trying to get away. It didn't slow him down though. He caught up with me and we were both standing in the road swatting each other with ball caps. I miss that old man. 0 -

dude! that ain't good! I got hit 27 times by red wasp years ago hurts like he--! got an uncle that spent several days in the hospital once he was stung well over 100 times!had a friend in school that was/is allergic has to carry some kind of drug with him epenephrine? [sp] I think as he could die in a couple of minutes without it so as BR said if you're not sure go to the Dr. GOOD LUCK! 0 -

Since you ain't dead yet you will probably recover, but you need to stay away form there until you know you are fully recovered. Like BR said, if you start feeling funny, check in at the Emergency Room. If you know where the nest is, put a cup of gas down the hole. Them little bassets can kill you.

They were probably Virginia bees, P.O.ed because he called Rockbridge county "yankeeland". By the way, yellow jackets are not technically "bees". They are in the wasp family. I read that somewhere.

Back in the late 60's my father ran over a YJ nest while bush-hogging the pasture one morning. Stung over 100 times. The county road dept. guy grading the dirt road by our house saw him lying in the pasture, put him in the truck and drove him to the hospital. Dr. said he was almost gone when they got there. Stayed in the hospital for several weeks. Went through a series of shots after that, but was still alergic.
In the 80's a red wasp popped him on the upper lip. I had just left going back home. He jumped in his truck and chased me down. Got in my truck and off to the ER we went. He complained I was driving too fast. (I was running about 80-90) When we had gone the 6 miles to the ER, he was already passed out, and face swollen so bad his eyes were almost shut.
After that one the Dr. told him to keep some Benadryl handy, and take two if stung again, then come to the ER.
I have been lucky, only stung 2 or 3 times at once by anything. Just felt bad, not alergic. But, if I remember correctly the Dr. said you could go for years getting stung without problems, then get stung and have an alergic reaction.

2 years ago, I was riding my 4wheeler at my friends pond. I picked the perfect spot to stop and look for turtles, directly on top of a nest of them. I looked down just in time to see them all over my leg. I was wearing shorts at the time. At the word "GO" they started nailing me. I roarded across his levee fast as I could and they were still stinging hell out of me. I bailed out amidst a very thick stand of pine saplings and finally lost them. I counted at least 30 stings but felt no ill affects.
Several days later I did go by to share a gallon of gas with them but the nest was empty. Ruined my whole day.
Many years before the above, my wife and daughter were walking down an abandoned rail road line in Louisana when last in line daughter (about 10yo) was attacked. She got 30-40 stings and started to choke up. We got her to hospital just in time. She had breating problems and her face had the classic "butterfly" pattern.0 -
Two weeks ago I rode through a bee swarm on my motorcycle. It was over in an instant & I wasn't sure what it was until I stopped a few blocks futher on. I found two live bees on my jacket, at least thirty
splats on my windshield & two dying ones stuck in my headlight. I got stung once on my arm & a couple of days later I had a red lump on my jaw. I figure I got off pretty easy & I'm sure glad I had the windshield on the bike.0 -
I hope everything is OK for you. I discovered I was allergic to bee stings after running over a ground bee nest many years ago. As others said if you start to feel the least little bit strange, go to the hospital. 0
