    Semper Fi.

If you are not already a member I would encourage you to join the American Legion, motto "Still Serving America"

I'm a Life Member of the Montford Point Marine Association, but there aren't all that many local chapters of MPMA. Of course there's always the Marine Corps League, The Navy Club, and if you served in-country during a conflict, the Veteran's of Foreign Wars.

    Thanks.

I would join the Legion, but I have some serious issues with the ones around here...

I don't know if its a national policy or a local one, but around here you don't even half to be a veteran to join the Legion or the other local Veterans clubs, AmVets...

I went there precisely ONE time. The only people there were a some local drunks, none of whom had served....appearenly you can join if a relative served.

Frankly, it disgusted me......it was just another run-down, hole in the wall, redneck sh**hole.

I might look into joining the VFW

It ain't national, and it won't be local very long after somebody blows the whistle on them. [V] [:(!] [V] [:(!]

JamesRK, Don't know how long ago that was but maybe it has changed. New leadership perhaps. I am a past Post, District and State Commander of the VFW and beleive me, things are changing. Sometimes we see the bad before we see the good. Don't judge any organization by the acts of a few. Yes, everybody that belongs to the service groups are not veterans as they have auxiliaries IE Sons of the Legion and Mens Aux/ladies Aux. The Post members are suspose to be veterans. When you go to see about joining, say the VFW, ask them what they do in the community for the youth or senior citizens, do they visit the VA hospital etc... That will tell you much about that particular Post. If they say they do nothing then you are probaly back at the first place. IMHO

I will second that! It took me about 3 months to get mine straight. And I caught the error during my exit interview at PSD while I was still in!

Are you supposed to get one at each enlistment's end. I have reenlisted a number of times and not gotten a single 214. I guess I'll wait for the flag at retirement.

the dd-214 is when you seperate for good, not every re-up.

I would go to the personnel office and ask questions. I have seven DD-214's and two DD-215's.
