Found Bullets
A few weeks ago I was out plinking with my .30-30. It was cold and I hadn't been shooting for awhile. Was only shooting at 40 yrds just to relieve my itchy trigger finger. Anyway, I was shooting at a downward angle into the ground.
Today I was walking through the field and found 10 of those bullets just laying on top of the ground. They were marked up from firing but were not bent out of shape. Shape looks perfect.
What would cause them to be laying on top of the ground?[?][?] I was completely puzzled as to how they could be, with me shooting INTO the ground and at only 40 yrds.
Also, would they be safe to use again if I tumble them clean?

There was about 8 inches of snow on the ground and about 20 degrees. That hadn't even occured to me. I bet that's why.

Hard snow and ice will stop a bullet without deforming it. I have fired lead bullets that I picked up a second time. With the rifling impressed into them they arn't very accurate. Now I just pick them up and throw them back in the melting pot. 0
