Remington 870 Express Super Mag.

Just bought one of these. Unfortunately, due to Kalifornia's laws, gotta wait till Friday to pick her up. Anyone have one of these, or have any advice as to what to look forward to??

    Yeah, a trip to the gunsmith to swap out that stupid J-lock with a non-locking safety (i.e. something that will circumvent your current necessity for a key to use your gun). I won't buy a gun with one of those cursed features. Had one screw up on my Remington 597. Had to walk back to my truck and get my key, lock it and then unlock it again in order to get it to fire.

    Got one of those on my Model 700. Never had a problem with it, but never locked it either. Guess that's one work around to the problem. Thanks for the advice though. I'll see how it shoots next weekend and advise of any problems I encounter.

    While you at the smiths having the safety fixed pick up a ported choke tube to ease the recoil. Without the choke tube the 3&1/2 inch shells will knock your teeth out.

    Surprised someone says the recoil is stiff from a 3 1/2". My Mossberg is just a little worse then the 3".

    bought one for my son a few years back. He has had ejection/feed problems with his since day one. Don't worry about the kick - if you are shooting something worth the extra power, you won't notice the recoil. Those 3 1/2" #3's are duck shreaders.... good luck with yours.

    Love it, I haven't had a bit of problem with mine. The 3 1/2 magnum turkey loads will rock ya, super fun to shoot.

    WinM70--I never locked mine either. It was unlocked when it failed to fire. I had to lock it and unlock it to get it shooting.

    Instead of buying ported choke tubes for every constriction you want to use with 3 1/2" loads, just get a limbsaver slip-on recoil pad. It made my Marlin Guide Gun (.45-70) as tame as my shotgun shooting pheasant loads.
