20 rd AR magazines

What's so special about 20 rd. mags that they are double the price of 30 rd. mags?

    Not sure. They seem to be harder to find than the 30s as well. I have about a dozen and my wife prefers them in her AR over the 30s.

    I like them in my predator AR for prone shooting...better clearance from ground to mag bottom.

    Check out Brownell's website. They should have an ample supply of 20 rounders at reasonable prices. I have seen them listed on a couple of retail sites for $16 each new.

    That would be double the price I pay for a GI 30 rounder.

    They should not run more than 30 rounders. They are really nice for shooting off of a bench or prone. The Brownells mags are great.

    Thanks, makes sense -- for shooting prone or from the bench, though I have no problems with the 30's that I have.

    Many people shoot in CMP AR matches also, and by the rules there only 20 round mags are allowed. They will not allow you to shoot useing 30 rounders in the competition.

    These are a tad higher, but I really like the MAGPUL Levelers...they never have bound on me

US military contracts for 20's stopped in the late 60's, meaning there are a bunch more 30 rounders floating around out there.

    People love having those 30's, but the 20's are actually handier for the average AR shooter using it on coyotes or plinking targets.

    I have a few dozen old style Colt mags that I use in my target gun. If I am trying to use the bipod 30rd mags hang too low.

    I guess supply/demand explains it. C-products makes a straight 20 rouder, but again, it's a couple of dollars more than 30 rd. mags. Oh well, I was just curious.

    I have about the same number of 20's and 30's...The 30's almost never make it to the range. Better for almost every situtation except just cranking off rounds.
