    I have done about 22 of the things listed I guess that tells you I'm older than[8D][:D][}:)] dirt. Born and raised in a farm town in Kansas where they still did most of that.Now how many have you done

    Everything fshfndr said and about the same number. What is this cotton picking you speak of?[:o)]

    Put up loose hay and put it in the barn with horses
    Worked on a threshing machine
    Picked corn by hand
    Scalded and picked chickens
    Castrated hogs
    Double clutched a 2ton with vacuum 2speed and without synchronizers
    Forged my own chisels


    I still have a horse drawn plow, lister, spring wagon, hay elevator, hay pulleys and harness. I guess I've never thrown anything away.[:I]

    ...No mules or cotton pickin', and only used the crank phone to zap unknowing friends. Other than those, all of them.
    ..Have also:
    .Churned butter
    .Used a foot pedal grindstone
    .Castrated hogs
    .Walked beans
    .Pumped gas, when the job required washing the windshield, checking the oil and the tires
    .Made wooden shakes (shingles)
    .Did planting according to the moon
    .Had a family member with whooping cough
    .....I quit, my lumbago is killin' me....

    Did em all cept 13 and 17,Least i cant remember ever useing a hand cranked adding machine.And i got took snipe huntin snipe by my uncle many many years ago.Thanks,Paul

    I never picked cotton!!! But I speared a lot of tobacco and that is long long here!!!
    And I ain't seen an outhouse to tip in years....and a porta jon Ain't the same thing!!!
    And something that really hurts' I had a gun in my locker at school and with their permission while I built and fitted a new stock for an Heirloom~~

    ..Old Fool, I've got you're additions covered. We had a glass topped gas pump on the farm. Man, it took a lot of strokes of the handle to fill that glass.

    I'm 63 and have done them all and, as mentioned in another post, hand-pumped water from a well---been on several hayrides. Also when I was a kid, I was given "a spoon full of sugar moistened with coal oil" as a remedy for whooping cough.

    I did about 15 of those. When I was about 4, around 1958, I watched my grandpa and uncles thrash wheat. I went with them when they took the wheat to the mill. The mill had a big water wheel to get it's power. They didn't grind their wheat, but traded it for flour, cornmeal and cash. I'm pretty sure the mill is still there and restored.
    But I never picked cotton. But my mamma did and my sister did, and my daddy died young. Working in a coal mine.[:)][:)][:)]

    Charge up a condensor, then put a little twist in the wire and lay it on a table. The first guy that picks it up will try to straighten out the wire. When his fingers get to the end of the wire you get your condensor discharged.[}:)]

    --Hunted coyotes with .22--

    --Outa Paradise-changed (blown) tires at 9000 ft, in the snow

    --Winched 1/4 mile outa High lake--

    --Dived for Pacific lobster (Longusta) outa Santa Barbara-

    --Trained at the Navy "diving Tower" at Pearl Harbor, Owahu

    --And just a bit more-legal stuff--

    -Played "kick-the-can"
    -Used a hand-cranked telephone
    -Popped "popcorn" in a pan on the stove
    -Raided a watermelon patch
    -Cooked/eaten stew out of an cast iron pot on an open fire
    -Milked a cow
    -Made a sling-shot
    -Played marbles
    -Discharged a capacitor (am I missing something....this is just a matter of a screwdriver across the terminals, right?)
    -Hand pumped water from a well
    -Gone on a "hay ride"
    -lived on a dirt road
    -Been in a home (an actual, full-time residence) without indoor plumbing (or electricity, for that matter)

    Add to that:
    -Used a washing machine that had a ringer instead of a spin cycle
    -Cut the engine and coasted down hills because gas sales were restricted

    Skinned a water buffalo.
    Pan-roasted raw peanuts.
    Got my jollies in an elevator. (late at night)
    Got my jollies in an air traffic control tower. (late at night)
    Got a ride in the Goodyear blimp. (7hrs, Whew!!)
    Took showers in the rain.
    Spent a few nights in a Buddhist monestary.
    Had a skunk as a pet.
    Had a fruit-monkey as a pet.

    By the by I still pop popcorn on the stove, although I use a wok.

    (Which I'm going to have to stop using, as donuts are getting to be a dollar nowadays.)

    I've popped popcorn on the stove and I've changed and adjusted lots of breaker points....but some of those other chores I've never even seen in movies.
