Finally a wall hanger
I finally shot my first wall hanger buck. I shot him on opening day of east river deer season in southeast South Dakota. Someone shot at a doe and spooked this one out of the thicket. I shot him from 100 yards away and dropped him right in his tracks. I was pretty thrilled until I walked up on him and realized that I had spine shot him. I was really ashamed of my poor shooting and the fact that I had to put another round into him. He has 10 points his left, 4 of which are hard to see, and 6 on his right. He will look great next to my black bear on the wall.

Thats a NICE ONE! I`ve gotten two doe`s this season ,but can never seem to connect with the big boys. I usually let the little fellers go. 0 -
Grats!!
I've yet to kill a hanger.0 -
Great job. I have plenty of deer under my belt, but still looking for that "wall-hanger".
As for the spine shot, don't worry about it. It happens to the best of us and the beauty of it is you don't have to track at all.[8D] It does tend to mess up the backstraps though.[:(]0 -
The last deer I shot looked like the love child of Don Rickles and Phyllis Diller. Not something you want to see hanging around.[:(] 0 -
Very nice!!! Congrats! Don't beat yourself up about the misplaced shot, at least you were able to recover him and not leave him out there wounded. 0 -
Nice deer Colin.
I live just up the road from you.0 -

I used to work with a guy who lived at the mouth of the Jim outside Burbank. I haven't been to Whimps for years.0 -

Nice!...but those little points near the base look like they should count too...I've always heard that if you can hang a ring on them, they count as a point...looks like it might be a 14 pointer to me...???[8D] 0 -
Nice looking deer. I've been hunting for one or three years myself and the biggest rack I've seen wasn't that big. Congrats! 0 -
