My great aunt use to roast squirrel with carrots, onions, turnips, pepper and mint leaves in a dutch oven. She would serve it as a stew with homemade biscuits. Incredible! [:p]

Doesn't get no better, and it works just as good with rabbit.

We used to make "5 dish squirrel" but all I can remember was squirrel, potato's, and tomato's. I'll have to find out what else was in it. Been about 15 years since I had it but mmmmmm it was good.

2 squirrels quartered up in a pressure cooker with 1 cup of water for 20 - 22 minutes. Remove meat from bones and place in skillet. Add 2 cans of Cambells creme of mushroom. Heat on medium for 3 - 4 minutes. Pour over freshly baked buttermilk biscuits[:p]

While at deer camp, a couple of squirrels seasoned with salt and pepper, wrapped in aluminum foil over the campfire was great. Otherwise at home, crock pot with potatoes and carrots!

Mixedbag stew, use what ever you have laying around, squirrel, rabbit dove, venison, what ever, you can also make a great mixed bag chili

While growing up my Grandmother would boil them to remove the meat, then proceed as you would when making chicken and dumplings, with just the meat. This was always one of my favorites, she would take 5 or so and make a pretty good meal out of them this way.

If you use a bigger gun you won't have to eat it.

I have to agree with squirrel and dumplings. Mom did not remove the bones first.

Man, I love huntin' squirrel. An old guy like me can just sit in the woods and watch the day go by. If a squirrel comes you can shoot it. If not a little nap can only be good. Yup, squirrel huntin' is hard to beat.

Wrap them in Jowl bacon, regular will work, than slow cook over an open fire or grill.

As with most any type of game meat you can't go wrong with a Crock pot. Just add some of your favorite cut up veggies, about two cups of water (or white wine) and a package of onion soup mix. Turn it on low, go to work and when you get home a nice meal will be ready and waiting for you.

Most recipes used to start out with : First you shoot, gut and skin some squirrels to start with. Just kidding from this old timer.

    Yep, as Joe says..

My mother, who is 92 years old, loves squirrel with dumplings. She grew up exising on whatever came from the woods, and that became a favorite.

She lives in a nursing home now, but I still make it a point to get her some squirrels each season and cook them up for her.

Actually, I kinda like them meself...

If you can stand one more...cut off the legs and boil in salted water for 30 minutes to tenderize. Then put some butter and minced garlic in the frying pan and fry the legs until brown all over. Serve with a touch of pepper and Tabasco sauce and a cold, frosty one. Kinda like wing dings.

When I was in college, my roomate used to cook them up in the crock pot. He would take all the meat off the bones and add an alfredo sauce. After it cooked together for a few hours, it was served over
    noodles.

It was a great meal...I used to go shoot tree rats whenever I had the chance and he would cook them up.
